It looks like Creation
will finally be making its premier here in the U.S. I heard about this movie back in June
, and was quite excited to see it. By September when it was premiering in Canada and the U.K., we saw that there was a some drummed up controversy about it in the U.S.
Initially it looked like no U.S. distributor would pick it up, but by the end of September Newmarket
decided to pick it up for distribution. October and November saw further release in Europe; but we still did not have a date scheduled for the U.S.
Well we have a date!!
January 22nd, 2010
If by chance you've missed the publicity on this previously, it stars Paul Bettany
(who is a self-professed atheist
) as Charles Darwin, and his wife Jennifer Connelly
as Emma Darwin.
NCSE's executive director Eugenie C. Scott described it as "a thoughtful, well-made film that will change many views of Darwin held by the public — for the good."
The big drawback though is that it appears to only be releasing in a few select cities: New York
, Los Angeles
, San Francisco
, Washington DC
, and Boston
. So if you're in one of those cities, you'd better be going to see it! First off, just to support it, and show support against all the religious fundies who didn't want it shown. But secondly, because a "strong opening weekend improves the chances that the film will subsequently appear in further cities, so NCSE encourages its members and friends to show up in force."
