I have a confession - I love the holiday season. I love Christmas' blatant commercialism and Santa Claus and all of that. One of my by-the-book atheist friends, however, was quick to make fun of me for wanting to get Christmas lights for my house. Is it really such a conflict being an atheist but enjoying the holiday festivities?

Well remember that most christmas traditions were taken(stolen) by christians, from other traditional celebrations. Some not religious at all.

There is nothing religious about Santa and toy-making elves, as long as you don't really believe in them.

While I don't particularly like the religious Christmas, I do love the secular one.

Hey, God hates Christmas trees, so I guess it's not only ok for an atheist to enjoy them, it's fitting. See Jeremiah 10:2-4.

I too love Christmas. I love giving and getting gifts, I love all those silly little traditions like hanging stockings, lights and decorating a tree. Most of all I love spending my time with family and friends and reconnecting with all those people I don't get to see or talk to very often. I think those people who put down or tease others for celebrating and enjoying Christmas are rather silly.
