While reading "The God Delusion," Dawkins points out Camp Quest, a secular camp for children and adults. I immediately put the book down and searched for information. What do ya know! The first annual camp in SOUTH CAROLINA will be taking place this October. (There are others around the country and for those with children, I encourage you to take a look).
From their website:
"Camp Quest is the first residential summer camp in the history of the United States aimed at the children of Atheists, Freethinkers, Humanists, Brights, or whatever other terms might be applied to those who hold to a naturalistic, not supernatural world view.
The purpose of Camp Quest is to provide children of freethinking parents a residential summer camp dedicated to improving the human condition through rational inquiry, critical and creative thinking, scientific method, self-respect, ethics, competency, democracy, free speech, and the separation of religion and government."
Now, for the most part, this a kids-only camp. However, for the SC event, it is ALL AGES and includes parents. I am very excited to see this come to the Bible Belt!
I emailed the camp to receive more information and I should be receiving some brochures soon! As it stands, my family and I will be attending! I hope to see some of you there!
