Since I joined T/A a little over a year ago, there was hardly a day when I wasn't actively enjoying participating on this site. Thanks to Jean Marie, most of you who know me were made aware that my sudden absence (for well over a month) was due to ill health. An emergency room visit landed me in the hospital for nearly 3 weeks, with the scary prospect of remaining there for much longer had my insurance not been willing to cover continued treatment at home. Happy to report that I'm 'Home-Sweet-Home,' with my daughter, my dear dog 'Baby' who had mourned my absence terribly, and my kitty-cat who seemed to get along just fine without me around - haha
I'm on intravenous nutrition for 12 hours a night, which means that for at least the next couple of months I am not allowed to eat a morsel of food! My small intestine had sprung a leak and rather than immediately attempt a delicate and difficult surgery that is not always successful, my doctors are hoping that this small rupture will heal on it's own given time.... So, I'm not recovered but I'm stable and hopeful that the outcome of this long ordeal will prove successful and well worth the deprivation of food-glorious-food! Amazingly I'm not really hungry, though I miss terribly the social aspects of sharing meals with friends and family. Since I am not eating it would have been a nice plus if during this process I could drop a few extra pounds, but the nutrition I receive is packed with calories (50% sucrose) which might in fact make me GAIN weight - Oh My!
I've missed my T/A friends and happy to be re-joining all of you again. I want to thank everyone for their well wishes and thoughtful comments. So happy to be back amongst you again.
Love,
Sydni
Comment by Gaytor on January 12, 2011 at 9:55am Welcome back Sydni! I wish you a speedy recovery.
Did the hunger go away and never come back? I grew up wrestling and have gone 3 or 4 days without food before and it seemed that by the end of day two the discomfort would subside. My discomfort with the practice has never subsided though.
Comment by Sydni Moser on January 12, 2011 at 10:15am Thanks for the welcome Adriana - Yes I had planned to not be posting recipes on T/A or reading them right now - haha But I'm still cooking at home, in fact more than I usual! Probably because I have more time on my hands not running around town as much as I used to.
Neal, thanks for the welcome. I've missed hanging around here.
Gaytor, when I was first in the hospital they only had me on a saline drip, but I was so ill that food had no appeal at first. Once my fever went down and I started to improve, I wanted to EAT, but wasn't actually hungry. They tried me out on a liquid diet, and packaged broth never tasted so good! I'm allowed clear liquids now, but keep it down to a minimum since it was suggested that the less I drink that better chance I have of healing. So I drink a cup of tea, and a cup of black coffee a day. Yummmmmm...

So good to see you're doing well, and home that you have a short and successful recovery. My dad had an intestine thing that put him in the hospital a few years ago. But he was back to himself in no time and is still fine. Good luck!
