This is a nicely compiled list. Unfortunate how many people take this at face value. I think in America, as well, there is a notion of atheists as being un-American, lacking nationalism entirely.

We will have to prove them wrong. I see the members of this site being on the front lines, if you will, in an ongoing struggle to straighten things out in this country. One step at a time, I cant tell you how impressed I am with everyone at TA, it has been a great experience and if we can get more and more people involved in TA it will spread. So I think we, the members of TA, are ambassadors in a way. Did I go too far? lol

Not all things on that list are bad things. Some are good things. Good stereotypes to be associated with atheism.

a few of those sort of apply...but i know a lot of theists who are have those qualities too..if not more so!! i think i lead a happier, more moral life than a lot of christians.

I think some of us are angry.

We're angry when people use religion as the means to terrible ends.
We're angry when something violates the separation of church and state.
We're angry when we're unfairly discriminated and reviled.
We're angry with religious wars and murders.
We're angry when children die because parents "prayer heal" rather than seek medical attention.
We're angry about the ongoing witch hunts in Mozambique.

Theists should be angry too. I'd rather be angry than indifferent.

Yeah, I agree. I am angry when faced with complete ignorance and counterproductive behaviour.
As a matter of fact the more I think about it the more angry I realize I am. lol

One sad thing is that typically a stereotype springs from a grain of truth; some of those on the list seem unlikely to have been founded on an actual truth. Or at the very least "correlation does not imply causation" since everyone of those stereotypes could be applied to 'other' groups. Seems more likely to be stereotypes created out of fear or loathing for differing views.
