The one I personally got to hear a few times is that atheists can't be artistic. They're stumped when I tell them I draw though.

By the way, the dick fat you were chatting to probably thought

"oh an atheist.. they worship satan and witchcraft.. satan worship.. that means heavy metal.. .."

You know, when I see the videos of the Christian zealots who want atheists out of the US, I get the impression they assume since we don't believe in God we must believe in Satan. Which is ironic because if anything they are the ones who fear going to hell, hence they are the ones who believe in an evil entity.

I am a professional musician as well.

I listen and play: Jazz, Rock, Funk, Salsa and other Latin styles, classical, ethnic/traditional/folk music, experimental sounds, Top 40, Swing, Opera, Country, Broadway, electronic and other forms of organized noise...and some Heavy Metal.

I'm in grade 12 and going to a catholic school, I was wearing a shirt I got at a concert for the band "counterparts". I was told I can't wear this shirt because of the lyric quotation printed on the back which is "so i will pray to a god, who is never there to a world, who doesn't hear" apparently thats "too atheist" but in my defense I brought up the instance I read about in "The God Delusion" by Richard Dawkins in which an American student was told he can't wear his shirt which quoted "Homosexuality is a sin, Islam is a lie and abortion is murder, some things are just black and white!" when this student was told he can't wear that shirt because it was offensive to homosexuals, muslims and half of the female population his parents sued the school... but it gets better, they didn't sue because they were inhibiting his freedom of speech, no, they sued because they were inhibiting his freedom of religion?... So it is part of their religion to insult others who dissent with them. I will wear an atheist shirt with pride.

FFRF does a weekly radio show that often highlights music by non-believers.

Much of the songs from the musicals of the mid 20th century for instance was written by Yip Harberg, an atheist.  Irving Berlin was an atheist (ironically, he wrote "God Bless America").  There were a number of classical composers too, who were either atheist or just non-Christian.  And the list goes on and on.

My first choice in music is classical, with jazz a close second - I don't know what that would tell a theist, but then again, I really don't care.

The Church, at one time, banned the flute because it's sound was so "pure" that women would lose control and have "lustful thoughts" or worse. Even way back then, musicians had groupies. "Money for Nothing and the Chicks for Free". lol

They also banned a musical interval- the flat 5 or #11, (C>F#)- known as the tritone or Devil's interval because it creates tension and sounds "dark and sinister".

Everything from Ragtime to Rock & Roll have been considered evil, morally corrupt, Satanic (especially when played backwards) by the faith-heads.
