Another reason religion is a bad, bad, thing (like we needed another one)

Image being 15 years old, your parents have just sent you and your siblings to your aunt's house for christmas. Upon arrival, you are accused of being a sorcerer and tortured as such, and by christmas day, you have begged for the release and peace of death and are finally drowned.

I found the following link while browsing for my morning news: http://www.news.com.au/top-stories/boy-tortured-to-death-in-london-...

It doesn't explicitly say what religion the torturers are but it shows that any level of magical thinking can cause normally good people to do some terrible things.

Yes, my mind immediately went to assuming they were Christian of some sort but then I noticed the article doesn't actually what religion they were identifying as... as such, the article only explicitly shows the danger of belief in the supernatural, not necessarily Christianity.

Do you really believe the torturers were "normally good people"?  "Normally good people" don't torture and kill no matter what religion - or lack of it - they are.  Religion doesn't make people idiots.  People start out that way all on their own.  Criminals use what they can to commit and justfiy their crimes.
