Early humans, who had the mental machinery to develop language, bootstrapped culture. The artifacts of culture include the capacity to share ideas which leads to reasoning; sharing ideas about what happens next. Many of these early humans lived in caves.

As the size of the early human communities grew culture and all the artifacts of culture (like religion) evolved. 200,000 years later the single-wide mobile home emerged from human culture.

The full account is in many books such as "Guns, Germs and Steel" by Jared Diamond. It's a fun read.
