A friend of mine and I recently had this conversation on Twitter:
He: I've said it before: why aren't atheists taking on pagans the same way they do other belief systems? Atheist friends, please reply!
(so I did!)
Me: My feeling is that pagans aren't trying to manipulate other people's lives through politics & legislation as much as Xtian Right
He: So more of an issue of them not necessarily being a threat, just sort of a spectacle?
Me: Yes, Xtians religiously predominate the push politically to affect and influence the lifestyles of others that don't conform
Case in point: t.co/JvLjVlN
Using God and religion to make legislation that affects lives. Forgetting the reason we left England for freedom from this.
He: Ugggggggggggh.
Me: Ughh to me? Or about Bachmann?
He: Bachmann. That rhetoric where disasters are skewed as being some kind of sign are part of why I stopped going to church.
Me: (BTW, I've NEVER heard a Pagan, or Buddhist, for example, suggest legislation based on their religious principles)
[end of conversation]
So I'm wondering two things:
1. Did I miss the mark?
2. What are other answers to his original question?
