Although I have not been on this site very long, I'm beginning to notice a pattern with the theists that post here. Most will come into the conversation and post ridiculous accusations about atheists. We're closed minded. We cannot see god because we don't believe. We claim 100% truth that there is no god. We're ignoring 'facts' that are in our face [i.e: earthquakes are getting stronger-proof of Jesus' return]

To me, it seems most theists are not interested in learning about the other side but are trying to catch us in a "ah-hah" moment and "prove" us wrong. This only leads to 6-page discussions where we are left over-explaining ourselves because the person could not grasp the information on the first time around.

Maybe we could create a sticky thread for theists to read before posting. It could have links to some of the exceptional T|A blogs, list the common misconceptions, list the common arguments, ect ect. . .

It's also my opinion that theists should be asked to answer questions like these before posting anything else:

  • Which god do you believe in?
  • Why do you believe in this particular god?
  • Any evidence to the existence of such god?
  • How do you feel about other gods of the past?

It seems these questions are asked over and over again but are never answered. If you truly believe in something, shouldn't you have these answers? Also, answering these questions can help us understand which way they chose to interpret their "word" of god.

I will admit that not being able to provide myself with adequate answers is what led me to my atheism. Maybe, by them writing and seeing their own thoughts, they will be able to see their own fallacies.

Personally I wouldn't go near a Hubbardfreak, they're like schizos on steroids, British chiropractors with their own Law degree. One minute they're all cozy and nice, like the smiling cheese to a mouse, the next minute the spring snaps and you're being dragged to court facing financial ruin.

The whole point of the enterprise in the first place. When they give away things, they're getting it back and then some.

Ya know, someone once told me that the creator of Scientology created the religion on a bar bet. I doubt that's true but I guess the conversation would have been somethink like this: "I bet cha I can create a religion with some futuristic metal hat and we'll have it all hook up Ghostbusters-style. Hell, I bet cha I can even get some dumb ass celebrities to join in. Tax-free billions!"

LOL, Scientology is 100% a cult and a joke. When Tom Cruise filmed Valkyrie, Germany would not let them film at the original locations because of Cruise's religious beliefs. [Scientology is viewed as a cult in Germany]

Yes well, it apparently doesn't hurt to have some experience in SF writing if you want to cook up some bullshit to start a multi-million dollar scam under the cloak of a religion for tax purposes.

@Albert- She has helped expose Scientology, which is a good thing. I've seen a few articles on her...& good for her! Wow, 30 years as a Scientologist...that's gotta have some effects on the psyche.

@Joseph- I'm glad they're here too! It really does help refine my debate skills. I just think they should answer the basic questions first so that we can determine what part of the religious spectrum they fall into.
