My old friends have become believers. Church every sunday, god is great, god is good, make me vomit, christians.

They were never like me but never like this.

I just want to slap them and scream "what the fuck is wrong with you ?!". But I won't. I love them more than I need them to be like me...

So, here I sit. Powerless to break their bond with myth without breaking their bond with me.

that would be there loss, however I personally could not stay quiet. If they want to finish your friendship due to your free thinking views then friends they are not. A liberal dose of violence should do the trick.

take care man

They are not lost, I see them every week. We go out and talk about old times, kids and other stuff old folks do.

We silently forgive each others failings. I, their willing detachment from reality. They, the eternal damnation of my soul, so easily saved.

What I lament is our charade. Keeping us together but separate.

Don't let stupid religious stuff get in the way of friendship
In my circle, I'm only 1 of 4 people that openly calls out religious bs but it doesn't matter cause we don't talk about that stuff anyway. But I suspect there's more like me behind the curtain ;)

Ooh wow, Wahoonie... I'm impressed, I have to say. Do you go to church with him? Does the congregation know? How long have you been together? Did he convert while you were dating, or get really "on fire" later on? This is fascinating to me; I didn't even think that was really possible unless you faked your faith.

My closest friend, growing up, was and atheist, like me. When he went off to college he became a believer. Now he is a theologian and an apologist for the catholic church. I had the hardest time understanding this until I realized that he became whatever those around him, wanted him to be.
