Brumalia (Roman Kingdom)
Influenced by the Ancient Greek Lenaia festival, Brumalia was an ancient Roman solstice festival honoring Bacchus, generally held for a month and ending December 25. The festival included drinking and merriment. The name is derived from the Latin word bruma, meaning "shortest day" or "winter solstice". The festivities almost always occurred on the night of December 24.
For those of you devoid of any knowledge relating to Ancient Greece Greek religion was tempered by Etruscan cult and belief to form much of the later Ancient Roman religion. So you see how a winter solstice festival has evolved over a few millennia to include santa claus, reindeer, elves, snowmen and a bastard child. The word that should be explored the most in the above statement is (evolve) a word that, for some, does not exist. I am simply pointing out that what we enjoy today as christmas, winter solstice, happy holidays or what ever the fuck you want to call it was not always what it is today. EVOLUTION, that bad, bad word has been forming our lives since the beginning, and not the beginning that reads like a fairy tale about six days and on the seventh he rested. I understand that this article will ultimately piss off anyone unable to think for themselves and I do not really care what they think. I have reached the point of no return regarding religious fundamentalist and feel we must take back our society from the one`s who wish it to be over because of 72 virgins or milk and honey. I don’t even like milk and honey, I like the earth, my life, my ability to think for myself. I practice true freedom and support the rights of ALL to be free, mind and body.
We claim to be a free people yet we adopt a primitive way of thinking that, ultimately, vanquishes the very freedom we so aggressively seek.
