Why is it that I have NO ONE to talk to? My mom is a devout Protestant Christian, my dad is a conspiracy theorist and a homosexual "Christian" & I have no friends who agree with my worldviews... What's a girl to do?

I have actually converted my wife to heathenism.  Not as an active campaign, more as just a side effect of my ranting and raving.  I actually feel a little bad about that now seeing as how she has stage 4 cancer and is wrestling with the whole death question.  While I don't believe in or like religion it can be a big source of comfort when wrestling with the question of death.

Ashley - My advice would be: Move to (another?) big city! It's a huge challenge and includes mind-boggingly dificult tasks such as finding an apartment, a job, a new social circle, new friends, new knowledge, etc. The downsides include a lot of work, a lot of compromises, a steep learning curve, solitude, and so on.

But you will not be bored.

I, like Ashik and Ashley have to thank the folks in the TA community for making me feel welcome here. I've experienced more straightforward, rational conversation here, in the past few days, than I can remember having at any time in my life. It's nice being able to express my thoughts and feelings without feeling that my audience is sitting completely aghast at what they are hearing.

Thank you all!

Ashley, you aren't alone. . .there are other atheists out there. . .we lurk on the internet, but you can find others in your city. . .the "Groups" section here has geographically based groups or you can try meetup.com or if you're still in school, try the secular student alliance for your university :) and welcome!

Wait, devout Protestant Christian, conspiracy theorist/homosexual "Christian," and YOU are the crazy one?! Goodness! My dad and brother are Young Earth Creationist, Fundamentalist Baptist Christians down in TN. On top of that my brother is extremely stubborn...not a fun combination. My mom doesn't care but all she knows for sure is that we didn't come from monkey's (sigh). So, in a sense, I feel your pain!! Although I am fortunate that I have a lot of influence in my family and can really do no wrong in their eyes with my atheism being the exception. They just chalk my atheism up to a misguided phase, despite this "phase" lasting for half a decade now.
