My colleague and I were discussing his topic on science, which was about taxonomy. Another colleague overheard what we were discussing and he butted-in and asked "What's the importance of that to our salvation?" I wasn't able to answer because I got mad and I was worried that if I gave my answer it'll just create an endless debate on science vs. religion. And we all know it's difficult to reason with a religious.

My friend said that I shouldn't mind what my colleague asked, but it really bugs me when religious people ruin intelligent conversations by including their beliefs in everything they say!

Next time just say it saves you from ignorance.

Getting mad doesn't do half as much as telling them they are acting stupid.  Maybe you actually get them, or someone else who hears to think about it.  Most of the time the only problem is they have never really looked.

Some questions are not entitled to an answer.

Ask him what the importance of working is to our salvation?  Did Jesus ever preach that one shall work till the end of their days , or did Jesus tell everyone to STOP what they are doing , even if you are providing for your families , and venture off and convert people while owning one shirt and perhaps a walking stick .. and mmmaaayyybbbeee a pair of sandals.

I don't know what's wrong with getting mad to unambiguously demonstrate this meathead your annoyance. There probably are a lot of clever things to retort with, but who cares, getting mad and throwing some lightning bolts from your eyes probably gets this dim lightbulb to go and get saved somewhere else just as effectively.

It's very simple, Tell him that there is no importance in regards to salvation and go back to your conversation.

If he gets offended, then next time he asks a practical question or attempts to make small talk, turn his question on him.

"There's something I'd like to discuss with you."

"Does it have anything to do with salvation?"

"Not anything I can think of."

"Well, then, don't bother me while I'm watching "Dancing with the Stars."
