The search for god is a byproduct of losing something or a yearning for something that someone feels they have been neglected. These things are not like someone stealing your bike or being picked last on the basketball team but something deeper, a loss of a parental figure or disapproval from society or the world around them which happens every day and is very typical (we are never good enough). So as a child turns to an adult and because a belief in god is ready at hand, and encouraged in the country I live in in, this is where they turn, something that can make them feel whole. My experience two-fold is 1: That I will never be whole and 2: That the work that has allowed healing in my life has left me with the feeling of nothing lost or missed and therefore the need for a belief in a god to be futile and unnecessary.
