The advancement of civilization would probably come to a screeching haul. We’re talking about the great majority of scientific minds suddenly leaving in a mass migration. Beyond that, who knows, but it would be fun to find out.

Whatever planet we did end up on would very quickly find itself far beyond that of Earth when we left. And we probably wouldn't need to be gone long, everyone left would end up killing themselves in a final Crusade for religious domination.

So I have a question, who exactly are we inviting along?

Only atheists, or do we bring along agnostics, panthiests, budhists, Unitarian Universalists?

Which brings me to the next question. What is the replacement level with athiests? Are we going to be able to sustain ourselves or just die out in a few generations?

Oh, I think a colony full of free thinkers with no moralizing Xtians around trying to legislate what people do in their bedroom would have zero problem sustaining their population.

NPR had a segment that discussed people moving to areas where they typically agree. Conservatives to Texas. Liberals to Seattle, San Fran or others. I have to say that I'm thinking of moving and between culture and weather, there are few places in the US where I'd live. We might have general answers to this very question in a lifetime or so.

I love Earth. I love almost everything about it. A few things without which it would be an even more beautiful place would be plutonium, hunger, R&B singers and religious dicks.

Lets say that happened. How long would it take for some religious nut to pretended to be one of us, only to try murder a ton of us? You know their god did create the universe and any planet we would inhabit.

I think it's a bit cruel to the people left behind on Earth. They might think they had been rejected from the rapture.
