So I was watching this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=motfAyx3bGw&feature=feedu
In the video she reads a letter from someone suggesting atheists just move to a different planet. My boyfriend and I jokingly agreed, 'Yes let's!' Then I thought about it more. What would happen to Earth if all the atheist, nonreligious, and logical people just up and left? Would the planet just go up in flames? would everyone kill each other? Or would there be some weird form of peace? Also, it sounds nice, but would we be happy if we all went off to our own planet?
Interesting thoughts...
Comment by Rick on August 19, 2011 at 7:01pm The advancement of civilization would probably come to a screeching haul. We’re talking about the great majority of scientific minds suddenly leaving in a mass migration. Beyond that, who knows, but it would be fun to find out.
Comment by TJ on August 19, 2011 at 10:18pm Whatever planet we did end up on would very quickly find itself far beyond that of Earth when we left. And we probably wouldn't need to be gone long, everyone left would end up killing themselves in a final Crusade for religious domination.

Comment by Artor on August 20, 2011 at 11:20am Oh, I think a colony full of free thinkers with no moralizing Xtians around trying to legislate what people do in their bedroom would have zero problem sustaining their population.
Comment by Gaytor on August 20, 2011 at 11:23am NPR had a segment that discussed people moving to areas where they typically agree. Conservatives to Texas. Liberals to Seattle, San Fran or others. I have to say that I'm thinking of moving and between culture and weather, there are few places in the US where I'd live. We might have general answers to this very question in a lifetime or so.
Comment by Albert Bakker on August 20, 2011 at 2:20pm I love Earth. I love almost everything about it. A few things without which it would be an even more beautiful place would be plutonium, hunger, R&B singers and religious dicks.
Comment by Meghan McWilliams on August 20, 2011 at 2:52pm Lets say that happened. How long would it take for some religious nut to pretended to be one of us, only to try murder a ton of us? You know their god did create the universe and any planet we would inhabit.
Comment by Alice Browne on August 20, 2011 at 10:18pm I think it's a bit cruel to the people left behind on Earth. They might think they had been rejected from the rapture.
