Girl spanked to death in the name of God - The Horrors of Religion

I am posting this as a blog because I wanted to write a comment about the video.

The story in the video is about those in the fundamentalist movement who take the bible literally when it says you should beat a child. The book that is referenced in the video goes into detail on how this should be done. As a father I am sickened by this.

There have been a couple posts recently on how atheists should be respectful of religion and let people do what they want as long as they keep it to themselves. As long as it doesn't affect us.  These people did just that. They beat their children, according to the bible, in the privacy of their own home. It didn't affect me right?

This is why I fight. This is why I am vocal. This is why I have a disgust for religion. This is why we need to stand up and speak out. Because, the little girl who died could not speak up for herself. This behavior is in-humane and whether you are on the fringe like this family or just refer to the bible now and then when looking for excuses on how to behave, to me they are all equally accountable for the death of that child.

The warped reality these people live in will probably lead them to believe they were actually supposed to go to prison so they could preach their phucked up dogma. 'god has a plan' shite.

Ah, dude... Seriously... So much life, wasted in the name of god. I cant stand this anymore. I don't care if he comes to me right now, F*CK HIM!

Fuck… another loon from TN. This is sick. There are certain beliefs that don’t justify any respect. This is a prime example. For those who would cry out for religious tolerance, tell me…what part of this belief system should we tolerate? Thanks for posting, Robert.

The authors cherry pick excuses from the Bible to hit their kids, because I know for a fact that they won't mention Deuteronomy 21:18-21 in their book.

I'm in tears. Fuck the Bible, if I find one in my house, I will rip it up. It's trash.

I had to share this on my Facebook page...I'm sure I'll start a war, but I don't care.  I'm really surprised(but thankful) that there aren't more people like this considering all of the violence and brutality in the bible which is taken so literally by so many.

Don't trash the bible Stephanie. It's good to have one around in case some theist comes over. You can show them how evil their book is and they can't deny it that way. :)

"If you can train your horse and you can train your dog, you can train your child."

A CHILD IS NOT A DOG OR A HORSE!

What kind of sick world do these parents live in if they view their children as livestock?

Furthermore, it has been proven that beating a dog or a horse is not a good discipline tactic at all.

But the idea that someone could believe that God had ordered them to abuse their children so badly... I have no words for this but I'm doing a lot of head shaking and tear-shedding for the state of humanity.
