That guy sounds an ignorant bigot. I have a big problem with him saying "ever since they started teaching evolution there has been a steady increase in murders, rapes, the amount of people in jail because of the people not believing in god because of evolution teachings.." even though if all the Atheists in the USA died, we would lose 93% of the National Academy of Sciences but less than 1% of the prison population. I probably would not have been able to hold my composure as well as you did. I probably would have been kind of nice but I would have definitely called him out of some stuff from the Exodus (even though its fiction) and contradicts from the Bible (also fiction).

Man you're too polite. I used to be the same way, but slowly I'm changing. These days, I would have just told him - "Thank you for wasting 30mins of my life, that I'll never get back. Recycle that dusty old rag that you call the truth & go read a science book."

I live in conservative small town in rural Oregon, and I deal with people like this on a daily basis. I love my college, but it has more Christian groups than any other college campus I've seen. I have absolutely no issue stating that I am an Atheist, and I have dealt with the same backlash and preaching that you have encountered. I used to be polite about it, but the older I get, the more I have decided to engage in arguments and state my opinion. Nothing that anybody has said to me has been groundbreaking, and it is all the same arguments I have heard before. Next time don't hold back! There are more Atheists in my town, but I am one of the few that admits it loud and proud! Hope youre next coffee break goes over more smoothly! :D

You handled it very well. If it were me, i would have started fighting fire with fire and say BS like "You know you're going to hell for saying the internet is full of lies... God created the internet. See you in hell."

Perhaps that would be a good response to someone who tries to convert you; "I'm sorry, but I don't do pyramid schemes". hehe

Hey man, you handled it the right way. Some minds are closed. He felt he needed to say something and he did. You listened. That to me is the right mindset. Listen to what everybody says, think about it and then decide it's validity. We as atheists should not fall in the same traps as the Religious. Obviously he was wrong but you listened and that's important.

I salute you. 30 mins! How did you manage that? I would of refuted each of his lies, one by one. 

Polite is great but firmness is required too, as I've often regretted letting lies go unnoticed for the sake of polite discourse, i.e. just for the sake of not rocking the boat. But nowadays I rock the boat until it turns over.

I would have tried to show where he and the buybull were wrong.  I don't think we should ever take a back seat to the faithful.  Reason should trump faith, but if we don't speak up for ourselves we are not even in the game.
