oh the U.S Media
Ya know, I really should stop reading news articles from CNN and Fox. The comments made by Americans usually portray that "ignorant" stereotype we so like to give ourselves to the rest of the world.
I'm pretty sure a few of you guys have heard the story where a man, claiming to be a prophet, decapitated a women in a supermarket. The story from the U.k plainly states the man's mental state. Let's take a look at the article.
The title: British Tenerlife tourist beheaded by 'Prophet of God' attacker
Key parts of the story:
It was also claimed that he had spent time in a psychiatric hospital and thought he was a "Prophet of God". Local news website site CanariasalDia.com quoted the local mayor, José Reverón, as saying that the man, who lived in a semi-derelict house, had shouted: "God is on Earth".
Mr Reverón added that the attacker was known to local police for his often threatening behaviour in the street, and had once knocked a man's teeth out, raising questions as to why he had not been kept him under closer supervision.
Now, let's take a look at what the United States is reporting.

A knife-wielding man attacked a woman in a supermarket, eventually cutting off her head and running away with it, government officials in Spain's Tenerife Island said Friday.
The man entered a shopping center in the town of Arona, in the Cristianos area of Tenerife, and stole a knife from the supermarket before attacking the apparent stranger, a central government spokeswoman said.
Shopping center security guards were alerted and chased the man, subduing him until police arrived. The man, whom national police in Tenerife identified as a Bulgarian, was apparently known in the shopping area, the government spokeswoman said.
The British Foreign and Commonwealth office confirmed Friday that a British national had died in Tenerife, part of the Canary Islands.
No mention of his mental state or his previous claim to godliness. Personally, I think this stems from American news trying to shield its readers from the truth and 'protect' their religious views.
So now, the comments made by Americans...

Well, if you were to venture out of the US news and read the UK news, you will see that a bystander thought the decapitated head was a joke. I mean seriously, how many people have seen a decapitated head? I know I haven't...and because of one incident you aren't going to speak to Spaniards anymore even though it was Bulgarian who committed the acts? I hope this person is not serious and if they are, they should read some on the Christian crusades and inquisitions. . .
In the end, screw you CNN for not having the balls to write a good news-filled article.

Agreed. It wouldn't be the first time I changed the news lol
(A month ago, an article on a local news website stated that our beach had been named the best in the U.S and had made the top five of the world. After checking their sources, the beach wasn't even listed in the top five but was #6. I wrote an email to the station stating my disappointment in their misrepresentation of the statistics and quickly received a reply that the article had been changed to reflect the true standing. I was very pleased with myself :)

News in the US is controlled by 5 to 7 corporations. GE (NBC) also a manufacturer of military systems. Rupert Murdoch owns and controls News Corp (Fox) owns two tv stations in NY city plus a newspaper.
Just a couple of examples who controls news, the question becomes does 5 to 7 corporations have too much power on what is reported, what we know about people running for office (what kind of spin about whom).
If you want to get a better idea of what is going on you have to check out other news sources, BBC, RT, Aljazeera, The Real News, Link TV along with the US networks and papers.

I wrote them and told them this was lying be omission and it was a disgrace. I told them this was on par with FOX. Wont matter in the end but I did it anyway.

The popular news media in the US is just as much a mass brainwashing and program tool.
They give out what they want to the people to hear leaving out the dirty details. Sound familiar?

It just change it though. Social networking and spread of information is helping to stop this. A few days after the Japan earthquake, a video went on Facebook from a survivor who had videotaped the tsunami. The title was "What they aren't showing on the American news" or something to that effect. A few days later, and after the rapid sharing of this video, the same exact video appeared on CNN.
In a way, this also shows how social networking spreads information faster than broadcast news. Some information may be false but we can say the same of the mainstream media.

I read this story earlier, and ignored an instinct to look into it more to see if there was some religious angle to it. That is bizarre that the media would leave that out.

This doesn't surprise me in the least. Journalistic integrity doesn't get ratings or fulfull agendas. Of course it would be a scarce commodity.
