So the Gay- Straight Alliance at the university around here organized a counter protest, because the WBC was going to protest the funeral of a soldier who had died in combat from there. We had a conglomeration of signs, one had FSM <3 gays on it, another had God hates figs, and so on. Mine had a quote about bigotry from Jefferson. We went there with the best of intentions. Lots of people had anti-wbc signs, and God bless America signs. The procession entered and suddenly a cop grabbed my sign and read what it said. "Where are you from?" "...Midland" "I'm going to ask you to leave because your signs are offending people." My awesome friend "What? We're not doing anything wrong." "These people are getting offended by your signs." Then some old man grabs one of the guy's signs and starts freaking out."Ya'll are gonna have to leave or come with me." We raised our signs and march towards the camera crew with a group of angry people behind us. "We came to protest Westboro, and are getting thrown out." The crew didn't care or look the least bit interested. Then, a guy punched my friend in the ribs and an old man beat him with a cane. We got in the van and went to get the rest of our group followed by the mob and the cops. So much for being on the same side. :( I've never been so terrified in my life.
