Why is it hard to grasp christianity for some people?

My whole life I have followed christianity. When I was i thought that majority of the world beleived in Christ but now that im getting older im seeing more and more people are either non-beleivers or follow another faith. So lately I have been thinking about how much harder it would be to think that our wonderful world was created out of nothing! And I would like to know why it's hard to beleive in something that cannot be disproven? So please tell me.

So do you believe in god only because you can't disprove his/it's existence or do you have some other reason for believing?

According to this guy's profile, he's between the ages of 13-18. This would explain his lack of knowledge and inability to carry on a decent debate.

@Jacob- I think you need to take a step back for a moment and research. I came from a Christian family and until about 6 years ago, I believed in Jesus and in Yahweh. I was saved, baptized, and become a member of my church. I was so hard core into Christianity that I wanted to be the person that could answer all of these hard questions. So, I went to the internet. I began to research history. I mean, if god & Jesus were real, we would see Christianity throughout all of history, right? Also, if god created Adam & Eve, there would be evidence leading back to one man and one women, who had modern language [more than just grunts and hand signals]. But this isn't the case. [What about cavemen?] As I began researching, I also began looking into other religions. Long story short, man created god as a way to explain the "unexplainable." I mean, we do know what a rainbow is and it's not a covenant with Yahweh. This simple idea of gods evolved into religion.

I actually feel a lot of better now as an atheist. There's no fear of an imaginary sky daddy watching my every move and he doesn't like what I'm doing, then I risk being sent to hell. I am also educating myself in history, biology, and physics, something I wouldn't have done as a Christian.

Good luck to you & I hope in the future, you open your mind.

Hi Jacob – You are young according to you homepage. I was wondering if you hold exactly the same beliefs as your parents and their friends and if so did you ever wonder why? Do you ever remember a time when the people around did not talk about god? Do you think that if you were born in India that you might worship another god? Do you think your broken arm will heal if you stop praying about it? Do you like to think? Get a pen and paper and write down what you believe and why you believe it. Then read it back to yourself.

Hey Scarlette!  His age may definitely play a part in all of this but I know plenty of people in my age group (in and around 40) that utilize the same type of fallacious logic that Jacob does. Like him they also refuse to answer most of the questions we've presented in this discussion.  I believe it has less to do with age and more with indoctrination and willful ignorance.

@Scott- Yes, this is true. I'm starting to think that he doesn't have broken arm and is only trying to avoid everyone's wonderful questions.

Serouisly Jacob... you act as if you are be attacked for minding your own business.. You wanted to be praised for this? What did you expect to achieve by getting on an Atheist website and poking around at our beliefs and instigating a very uneducated (on your part) argument? For your information.. since you clearly know nothing about atheism, atheists are thinkers... and if you think you're going put anything on the table that is new, eye-opening or powerful.. you probably won't. A lot of atheist, such as myself, have come from a religious up-bringing therefore we've probably already read it, seen it, watched it, studied it and comprehended it and proven it to be wrong. So if your goal is to preach to us and convert us then don't bother.  As for your accusing us of having hardened hearts.. let me tell you something... I have had my ass grabbed by a church youth group leader, I have seen regular church attenders beat and abuse their children and I have been manipulated to believe that I was put on this earth to worship and obey a fictitious character from a book of parables.. and i can still feel pain, love, anger and remorse for any human no matter what they believe, can you say the same for yourself? I am not saying that ALL christians are bad people, good and bad people come with all different characteristics and beliefs. I am saying that you are sadly mistaken if you believe you can make a judgment like that about anyone due to their beliefs. My heart is far from hard... In fact i am always very sympathetic and saddened when i hear about another rape or murder that your god let slip by... despite his outstanding abilities... but he can get away with it.. he has people like you making excuses for him right? Lets be honest, that's really all you're offering.. excuses and opinions.. no facts are avialable for some reason. I honestly hope that some day you start questioning the right people.

After watching this thread. I am thoroughly amused by the way jacob managed to bait so many of you. It's as if many of your lives waiting for someone like jacob to wonder in. The way jacob has presented his points, the lack of follow-up on questions posed to him, and his general demeanor strongly indicates he is indeed a troll. A very interesting experiment

I'm also beginning to believe Jacob is a "Poe"

(From the first page...)
"But god also doesnt want us to know everything because we would not be human if we did and if we did know everything there would be no need to follow him."

PROVE that we would be nothing if we knew everything. What is wrong with knowledge??? How does knowing the intricacies of the universe make us non-human?!?!? Explain your thoughts a little deeper please.
