I foudn this article on Yahoo!'s front page earlier:

http://health.yahoo.net/articles/pain/6-alternative-treatments-chro...

It's obviously listed under the "Health" section of the site, though I feel that it should be nowhere near that section at all. Being both an Atheist and a general skeptic, as time passes it becomes increasingly annoying to see articles like this spread around.

It does the usual thing that these articles do: "In recent studies, patients with lower back pain..." which studies? Who did these studies? Were they reviewed?

They attempt it later by saying:

NCCAM is currently funding research to determine how often and how many treatments work best.

Which sure sounds official! Unless you spend a mere 2 minutes to research what NCCAM stands for, the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine. I wonder if the research they're funding will be biased? especially since their past studies have been somewhat dubious in the past: http://www.sciencebasedmedicine.org/?p=4474

Basically this is just my rant... because I feel that there is a culture of laziness in the inability to check on the background of things such as this.

Anyway.. feel free to comment on this if you have any feelings towards it at all.

I can't believe NCCAM is actually an American Government Agency.

Come on, the Science of Complementary and Alternative Medicine (SCAM, for short) is totally legit.
