Bill Nye Boo'd In Texas For Saying The Moon Reflects The Sun
Bill Nye, the harmless children's edu-tainer known as "The Science Guy," managed to offend a select group of adults in Waco, Texas at a presentation, when he suggested that the moon does not emit light, but instead reflects the light of the sun.
As even most elementary-school graduates know, the moon reflects the light of the sun but produces no light of its own.
But don't tell that to the good people of Waco, who were "visibly angered by what some perceived as irreverence," according to the Waco Tribune.
Nye was in town to participate in McLennan Community College's Distinguished Lecture Series. He gave two lectures on such unfunny and adult topics as global warming, Mars exploration, and energy consumption.
But nothing got people as riled as when he brought up Genesis 1:16, which reads: "God made two great lights -- the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars."
The lesser light, he pointed out, is not a light at all, but only a reflector.
At this point, several people in the audience stormed out in fury. One woman yelled "We believe in God!" and left with three children, thus ensuring that people across America would read about the incident and conclude that Waco is as nutty as they'd always suspected.
This story originally appeared in the Waco Tribune, but the newspaper has mysteriously pulled its story from the online version, presumably to avoid further embarrassment.

Too bad god, or should I say the 40 odd writers of the bible, couldn't see that English would be the world's main language in the 21st C. ....god.... all knowing!!!! Heh, heh!

I think it is quite admirable that he started out with the Bible, Gen 1:16. Strong's Hebrew word, 1419, greater, noble, exceedingly, far, compared to Strong's Hebrew word 6996 dimminutive, lesser in importance, smaller. There is no statement in the verse denying reflection or declaring the moon to be its own light source. It is interesting to note, however, that light was created on the first day, and the sun, stars, moon, etc on the fourth day. Now that is something that only the Deity can explain. However, since Jesus of Nazareth also believed in the creation story, and he rose from the dead, it might behoove us to consider it as a true history. Of course we do not condone the actions of the ignorant masses that did not let him finish his discourse, but then again, most people born in the 70's and after do have the misfortune of the American Public School Syste

Just so you all know, not everyone from Waco (or Texas) is insane. My boyfriend is from Waco. He is a very smart, intelligent guy who is also an atheist. I always feel kinda bad when Waco gets a bad rap like this. Granted, there are crazy religious people there, but still.

Reading people trying to justify the Bible's lies in today's world with science is like listening to people tell me that Snooki has anthropological value (someone actually said that to me). People just refuse to be honest with themselves.

Well, everybody knows the moon is really made of cheese, so it can't make any light. The moon appears to be yellow in color at times, though grey and blue are not uncommon, that is when a layer of mold grows on the surface. We know that this layer is often cleared off by solar winds, the same that cause tidal waves, blow off this layer of mold and exposes the fresh, yellow layer in the early morning time hence the moon being yellow mostly only in the morning. Also, the holes in the moon are obviously the same sort of holes you see in Cheddar, which is caused by yeast, this is the only life on other planets aside from the mold. However, yeast has not been seen on the moon since around 4000BC which was the time of the flood. The flood actually reached the moon, washed it in water, and took all the yeast from the moon.We know the moon is cheese also because the moon is getting sharper with age, we can actually see the proteins breaking down. I hope one day I can travel to the moon and try some of it's delicious cheese.
