Dad in custody after daughter, 13, dies - Girl refused to say prayers with father: neighbours

MONTREAL — A 13-year-old girl whose beating death led to the arrest of her 71-year-old father had enraged him by refusing to say her prayers, according to neighbours.

Noutene Sidime died Saturday evening in suburban Longueuil, Que., three days after she was rushed to hospital unconscious and bleeding from her nose.

Her father, Moussa Sidime, had called 911 last Wednesday. Sidime was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, but the charges could be upgraded, police said.

<snip>

There were tears and tributes at Sidime’s high school Tuesday as students returning from the long weekend gathered by the hundreds in the schoolyard. They released balloons and remembered a happy girl who was once honoured as the coolest student in her class.

What's not being said here? This of course was a terrible tragedy, but was this man right in the head? At 71, he could have been suffering from dementia; he could have been schizophrenic, mentally ill or an abuser all his life. I just wonder. I hesitate to blame religion for this as it could have very well been any kind of abuse from an unstable individual. Without all the facts, there's no way to tell.

Yes my grandfather had dementia and he'd become quite violent over petty things. This was not the act of a rational man.

"what this dude is wrong no question about that, but rather than to persecute him shouldn't we pray for this dude"

You're kidding right? God didn't give a fk about her enough to prevent it, so now he'll should give a fk about the poor father as long as we ask him to? Gimme a fkn break!

"because there's clearly something wrong with him and i don't believe that he beat the girl up for not prayin he must be mentaly disturbed or something"

Perhaps - but mentally disturbed or not (which I'm not convinced that he is) he still needs to be confined from innocent people. The only thing that is clear is that he is unable to control himself from hurting innocent victims.

"and for you all to be pointing finger you know what you do in secret, we are no better and i hope no one is gong to shift the blame on god. "

Given that most of the people on this site are atheists, can you possibly even be serious about that last part?

WTF?

Why hasn't this been all over the national news? I'm so disgusted right now.

This is so disgusting. Even disregarding the religious element at play here, that a father could treat his daughter like that is despicable.

thank you for posting this.  one is beyond words in rage.  makes me question my own take on capital punishment.  i feel this article should be posted on every believer's website, regardless of their so called devotion---like sam harris says, the moderates allow murderers like this fuck to perpetuate their acts.  she was such a beautiful person, look at that smile---he robbed her of anything she could have accomplished in living a longer life that---anything she could put her mind to.  makes me wonder what her dreams were.  makes me wonder how her friends and family are coping.
