I can't stand keeping this a secret anymore! My theist family has forbade me from talking about them on this site! They have accused me of being a traitor and "not telling the whole side of the story" when I rant about their attacks on my atheism! They have demanded that I be silent, and given that they and watch my activity online [the few times I've accidently forgotten to log out of this site] and offline like a bunch of crazy paranoids, I have decided that I will honor that request [for now] and say nothing about their abuse. But the pain of dealing with it has gotten much worse now that I can't tell anyone. I don't know what to do. And I can't take it anymore!!!

This double standard is HORRIBLE!!

My mother has OUTED ME AGAINST MY WILL to some of her christian friends, and yet I am not allowed to say ANYTHING about them. This is TOTALLY unfair. And I can't express my horror and rage enough at being outed behind my back by a theist! All of a sudden I am subjected to "sympathy" from random friends of my mom who I am CERTAIN I have not told I am an atheist.

Seriously! I don't even mention their names or any identifying features! WHAT ARE THEY AFRAID OF?!

It makes me wonder if they secretly know that what they have done is wrong? IDK.GRRRRRR.....

Sounds to me like mommy and daddy have a really hard time accepting the fact that their baby girl is NOT a baby anymore and has a mind (and opinions) of her own. Part of being a parent is not only giving your children roots to grow with, but also wings to fly away with. That sometimes means accepting that your child isn't what YOU want them to be, but maybe - just maybe - your child is what THEY want to be, and their happiness is what matters.

Some people have a very hard time letting go.

Skycomet, if you have a way to get in touch with me privately (where they can't read it), I can give you a few steps that you can take to insure that they'll never see this site again (nor any other you wish to block from them) and your online activities absolutely cannot be monitored.

That is infuriating. I'm glad my parents are too technologically stupid to snoop at me on the internet. However, they can still piss me off. They refuse to let my little brother know I'm an atheist because I'll be a "bad influence." They don't want him exposed to opinions other than their own! It's utterly stupid! Once he's old enough to keep a secret, I'll tell him and hopefully he'll start thinking.

B - Here's some good news! ^_^ As usually I have to settle some affairs before moving out. But I have plans set [and my parents have agreed to them - which is a bonus... but unbenknownst to them, I would have left EVEN if they had refused to let me go [I'm 21 which means they can't make the police drag me back]. It appears though that, so far, I'm not going to have to sneak away in the dead of night and try to figure out how I'm going to make a living on my own. ^_^
MY PARENTS ARE LETTING ME GO AWAY TO COLLEGE NEXT YEAR!!! :D :D :D
I am really excited that I am going to be leaving my parent's house, finally! [And I hope for good]

I was also looking forward to telling you guys.

Last Friday I confirmed my admission to Morehead State University. It's a beautiful, rural, mountainous campus in Kentucky in the tiny college town of Morehead. Yes there are a lot of churches in the area, and I have heard that the local townspeople are quite religious. But, since the students come from all over, I have also heard that they tend to be extremely tolerant. ^_^
Morehead is 2 hours away from my parents home [so they won't be able to get to me easily either] lol.
And I can't wait to leave.

This is morehead's website.

Craig - Good luck! Your parents sound a lot like mine. All my siblings know I'm an atheist. [I pretty much came out to my nuclear family members all at once... at the dinner table I think... I don't remember well]. Well, they refuse to let me talk about religion in the house or about our family on this site, as I said.
Good luck! I know families like that can be excruciating. :P

Skycomet, it looks like you will finally be free to grow and land where ever that journey takes you. I am glad. Spread those wings and enjoy the trip!
