Its been a while since I have made my presence on Think Atheist so I have decided to share with you my experience in my History class today.
We started on the roaring 20's last class and had finished right before the scopes monkey trial. Well today he decided to show this interview at the beginning of class.
Let me tell you that the community college I attend is very Conservative so during the video there was a lot of laughter directed toward that stupid scientist who doesn't believe in god. My history teacher brought up the fact that dawkins said that he believes we were created by aliens from another planet. Of course the class got a kick out of that.
I'm not sure if I should be upset or if I should just shrug it off. This kinda thing is pretty common, when healthcare passed my whole school was up in arms against the evil communists taking over our country. couldn't walk a yard without hearing a hatefull conversation of healthcare reform. So it is kind of expected here.
Anywho I never really liked debates for a simple reason. If you as an observer does not have an extensive knowledge of the subject matter, the guy that can utilize better manipulation techniques is going to "win" the debate. So thinking back to the many creationism vs evolution debates. You have the guy that has learned the techniques used by religions to manipulate people for thousands of years, against a fellow who knows the facts and utilizes critical thinking. To the average person watching the debate the refined manipulator is going to win.
I want to say something to the HR people at my school but it may be added stress I don't really need right now. What do you guys think? Oh and by the way can I get a scholarship for being in the atheist minority? haha.
Questions and comments welcome.
