Has a believer ever told you "We are living in the last days and times" ?

I'm in my 20's and I've been hearing this since I was 5yrs. old,especially from older people. What exactly does that mean and what kind of response is a statement like that suppose to draw?

When I think of all the prognostications that seers, psychics, and religious fanatics have made in my lifetime and how absolutely none of them have come to pass, it really makes me wonder about the credulity and gullibility of the human race.
