First blog... ever.
So I definitely have opinions, although it wasn't until a couple years ago that I could actually back up all my thinking.
I come from a math family - both parents are mathematicians - and so naturally this is what I'm studying in college (Oregon State University). For those who haven't been exposed to it, math is alot like philosophy: ideas are postulated, definitions are presented, then logical conclusions are drawn. This way of thinking trickled down to all areas of my life. Logic, and an almost axiomatic way of viewing the world became the cornerstone of my existence!
It shouldn't be surprising that the first thing out the window was my religion. I grew up Catholic and man, talk about nonsense. It's funny, I still owe most of my morals to my Cathoic upbringing - but the difference is that now I'm liberated from any garbage dogmas. Who is to say that I can't find reasons to be a good person without believing in a fairy tale?
I'm sure I'll get into all that religion/ethics stuff later, so I'll wrap this up by throwing out a few things about myself!

Interests: sports: tennis, basketball (go Blazers!), hiking, backpacking, traveling
Music: I love rock, but I'm kinda all over the place. I actually play bass for a band called Honest to Empire. Check us out!

Your description of math makes it sound like it should be considered a language. I took Archaeology as a quantitative skill in college. I don't speak higher math.

Peter! What's up man? haha nice to see you around these parts! It can be stifling at times not having an outlet of like-minds to connect with. That's why I joined too.
I kind of started off in the same way... with my own doubts... then I became obsessed with finding out the truth... and eventually relieved and satisfied after years of asking questions. I've been comfortably atheist for a few years now and it notably one of the most liberating realizations of my life.

Actually growing up, I distinctly remember you being Catholic as well. We must have had totally similar experiences. Haha, and I know what you mean about being obsessed...
