Impeach and Investigate House Speaker Boehner.

In recent events, House Speaker Boehner has gone from being the cartoon villain of the republican party with the funny name that is pronounced differently than it is spelled, to being a serious threat to our nation. That's why I created a petition on calling for his removal from office. I'd appreciate it if everyone signed it. It goes as follows:

House Speaker John Boehner has repeatedly called vote after vote to defund the Affordable Healthcare Act, wasting millions in taxpayer money in the process. He has recently threatened to shut down the government if he doesn't get his way. This would endanger the lives of every American citizen, because the government would not be able to respond to a national disaster quickly enough.

We call for the immediate impeachment and investigation of Speaker for the House John Boehner for negligence of duty, wasting of Taxpayer Money, and Endangerment of American lives. His actions warrant an investigation into his private life, and who he is receiving funding or "gifts" from.

I saw a fascinating short video on why healthcare costs in the USA are so high - I come from the UK where we have the National Health programme and medical costs are not out of control, so the lack of such a programme in the USA is fascinating - if you have 7 minutes, I recommend you have a quick watch :)

You might enjoy Sicko by documentarian Michael Moore, a full-length excoriation of American healthcare. It paints a nice picture of healthcare in the UK.

Excoriation - what a lovely word!

Well, I hope it's not a new word to you.

Great clip, Strega. To summarize, the factor that does most to raise the cost of healthcare in the US as compared to our more civilized countries is the very factor which the right maintains will save healthcare - capitalism! Civilized countries' governments are permitted to act like governments are supposed to act - for the betterment of their citizenry - not solely for the benefit of the corporate "owners" of the politicians.

Let me guess. When you send this clip to right-wingers, you don't get a whole lot of replies, right?

Replying to Unseen---There is provision for the people through their state legislatures to call a constitutional convention and bypass Congress.  The main problem with this is there is no way to limit what the convention could do.  It could completely rewrite the constitution and submit is to the states for ratification.

Needless to say, Congress would be apoplectic with fear if such a convention were called.

I'm aware of the two procedures for revising the Constitution. It's just that neither one is ever going to happen. Not in OUR lifetimes. So maybe the problem you identified is more theoretical than actual.

Also, the Constitution, written by and for a bunch of wealthy colonist oppressors (of the natives) and landowners, is ridiculously out of date. I would be all for rewriting it.

Once we get rid of the GOP and Tea Party assclowns, of course.

Pass me a pen. I've got half the new one in my head already. Language specifically designed to be impossible to use to oppress anyone.
