I found this incredibly beautiful; a realistic love story, and a true appreciation of fleeting life:

By Ann Druyan, wife of Carl Sagan

When my husband died, because he was so famous and known for not being a believer, many people would come up to me - it still sometimes happens - and ask me if Carl changed at the end and converted to a belief in an afterlife. They also frequently ask me if I think I will see him again.

Carl faced his death with unflagging courage and never sought refuge in illusions. The tragedy was that we knew we would never see each other again. I don't expect to be reunited with Carl. But, the great thing is that when we were together, for nearly twenty years, we lived with a vivid appreciation of how brief and precious life is. We never trivialized the meaning of death be pretending it was anything other than a final parting. Every single moment that we were alive and we were together was miraculous - not miraculous in the sense of inexplicable or supernatural; we knew we were beneficiaries of chance… that pure chance could be so generous and so kind… that we could find each other, as Carl wrote so beautifully in Cosmos, you know, in the vastness of space and immensity of time… that we could be together for twenty years. That is something which sustains me, and it's much more meaningful.

The way he treated me and the way I treated him, the way we took care of each other and our family while he lived… that is so much more important than the idea I will see him someday. I don't think I'll ever see Carl again. But I saw him. We saw each other. We found each other in the cosmos, and that was wonderful.

No, I didn't get this from CSI. I stumbled upon some obscure site and the story was actually an image file.

It’s the pride that the Theists like to display in showing their humility while announcing religion is all about searching for the answers they already have that chokes me up every time. ;-)

FYI - it's just been announced that little Ricky Santorum has been made CEO of a newly-formed Dallas film company, that plans to produce Christian films in order to bring values back into the family.

Randomly, 'Santorum' is Latin for 'Saints'.

I believe it may be, "of the saints," possessive.

Here is the dedication Carl Sagan wrote in his best-selling book
Cosmos:

For Ann Druyan:

In the vastness of space and the immensity of time, it is my joy to share
a planet and an epoch with Annie.

It's weird....but I seem to recall Mr. Sagan's soothing voice more than anything. His words were very powerful but his delivery was almost hypnotic. A lot like Bob Ross the guy who did the paintings on PBS.

Was just reading a web page on the evolution of man and the author of the piece reminded me of how Carl referenced the timeline between present day and the big bang as a twenty four hour clock, with 12:00 am being the beginning and 11:59 pm being the end.

In my 14 or 15 year old brain that was one of my greatest "A-HA!!!" moments.

BTW: Great post on Ann Druyan. Exactly how I've looked at my time on the planet with my lovely wife of 21 years.
