Taliban claims responsibility for attempted murder of 14 year old Pakistani girl.

Yesterday the Taliban carried out a 'hit' on a 14 year old Pakistani girl who has been vocal and outspoken on the Internet and in her local community about the rights of women to seek & receive an education. She survived but is in critical condition after being wounded in the head and neck. The Taliban said her behavior is blasphemous and must not be tolerated. And that upon her recovery and release from the hospital she will be targeted again. The misogynistic attitude of extreme Islam is reprehensible but I am totally shocked at the limited protest and uproar of the Pakistani people over this incident. There was protest but in a country of 175 million the few hundred who did take to the streets of a few cities demonstrates a society that must live in fear and ignorance.

The Taliban: on ground so shaky, a 14 year old girl is considered a threat.

I have real problems trying to put my head around the thought patterns of these extremists. From a western perspective it is mind boggling and from an atheistic viewpoint there actions lend credence to the need for the elimination of supernatural belief systems.

How proud they must be to have shot a 14 year old girl in the head for wanting an education and being willing and courageous enough to speak up about it.

BTW, you get to see an interview with this girl about a minute into the above video. One can't help but be impressed with how bright and articulate and determined she is. She is wise beyond her years.

The Taliban are inadequate sub-human scum hiding under the "religion of peace". *Irony meter explodes*

A society that condones the shooting of a girl for seeking an education must be living in a period most likely before the bronze age.

The taliban must be really scared of educated women or how do they justify attempts at killing a small girl for encouraging her peers to get an education! And Pakistanis have to wake up and protest this horrible and cowardly act.

Oh, yes, what brave people these are. Another girl was also hurt, also - All because she wanted to be educated. Amina Filali wanted to become a doctor. Oh, yes, inadequate males, who kill anybody who confronts their primitive religion and culture. How frigging brave is she. Amina Filali knew she was a target, but didn't give up the cause. Now, these retards have shown the world to what length these knuckledragging bastards will go to. The fact is, the rest of the world now know just what cowards they are. Amina Filali's family supported her.

And no one kills an Ambassador over this one? Where is the outrage now? perhapse if children dressed in pages ripped from the koran it would become in some way "Blasphemous" to gun them down in the street.

It seems to be some sort of inferiority complex with these "knuckledragging bastards" as Susan so aptly described them. I believe they fear their male dominated society will fall and crumble as women come to the realization that collectively they can become a force that demands equality. I hope they can muster the courage to start the 'good fight' just as U.S. women did in the early twenty century. Hopefully democratic societies around the world can offer any and all support to their cause.

@ archaeopteryx

This is true. Although there was surely some women who came home after a placard bearing demonstration and was rough handled by a disagreeable husband. The thing about Middle Eastern culture that troubles me the most is their absolute lack of concern for human life. That simply for the thoughts one possesses you can forfeit your existence. It boggles the mind.
