Is it just me, or does everybody on here sound like pathetic politicians, just trying to make themselves sound more believable putting others down than proving themselves? Has anybody heard of the phrase, "You catch more flies with honey than vinegar?," or has the complex design of human intelligence been reduced to stupidity?

"Do you guys believe in an afterlife or is it just nothing?"
When I die, I'll continue on to my next life. This cycle will repeat until eventually the world will be replaced by a large game over screen, and the player will need to insert more quarters.

While there is no prohibition of theists here, this site feels (to me) like it has fewer stupid theists annoying the atheists. Humans being what they are, when you have a chance to get away from the source of your annoyance to tend to vent your frustrations.

Plus, I don't know what we should be proving and who we should be proving it to. The site is called "Think Atheist" not "Prove Athiests/Atheism are/is Better".

If anything this site (like other atheist sites), shows that atheists are individuals who really only have one thing in common. As with any gathering of people you will find that you do have other things in common with some people but not others. That does include, you Warofages, in addition to being the general "you".

As for your reception here, your post is severely antagonistic and theistic so you shouldn't have been been surprised by the responses you got.

The complex design is like the afterlife: only an idea but ultimately not real. I'd like to have more than this short life but I take comfort knowing there is no idiot who did a crap job designing us.

@ Warofages - I do believe the complexity of human intelligence has been reduced to ironic stupidity at times, but this page is not a good example of that for me.  Surely, some of us vent and say unpleasant things about theists, religion, creationism, etc.  What else do you think we should do?  Contrary to what some theists think, being an atheist is not easy, and it can be absolutely infuriating.

Why not believe in god, you say?  Because I can't, given the information available to me.  I can't simply believe because you or anyone else thinks I should.  I can't believe in god because a) I don't want to, b) I see no evidence of your particular deity or any other deity, and c) I won't allow myself to be brainwashed into thinking that believing is a good idea.

Why do you not believe in the Flying Spaghetti Monster (all hail His Noodleyness), even though there is the promise of a beer volcano in the afterlife?  If you come up with reasons why you don't believe in the FSM, you will know EXACTLY why I don't believe in any deity.  They are all the same to me.

Shall I totally disregard what I believe and betray myself so that theists will be satisfied?  No, I won't.

I'm not catching flys, I just don't want to be oppressed by fraudulant nonsense and backword idiot garbage.

warofages, wishful thinking does not make a thing true.

Hi Warofages – Do you believe that your death will lead to you becoming immortal? Is that something that you are “looking forward to after you die”? Religions give people the hope that there is an afterlife. It is their main selling point. It plays on the innate fear of the unknown that all humans have. Why address it further if you believe that there is a god?

I do not believe in gods. Therefore I do not expect to live again and for all eternity after I die. I see this as a more mature viewpoint. I can understand why believers would consider that I “am putting others down” as it may seem an arrogant statement to make. I cannot prove there is no eternal afterlife. My death will be the end of my “self”. My body will breakdown into atoms and be recycled. That is all and I am quite happy and content to live my life with that understanding. So do you believe you will become immortal when you die?

warofages; to answer your questions in order...

...Why not believe in a god?  ans. - Because it would make me feel stupid.  What is there to look forward to after you die? ans. - nothing; but who cares?  I‘ll be dead.  Do you guys believe in an afterlife or is it just nothing?  ans. - I can only speak for myself: no, I don’t; and it IS just nothing.

Don't ask us to prove the negative. All we can do is tell you why the arguments in favor of God's existence are lacking.

What we CAN do if you're ready for it is tell you why the reasons you believe in God are misguided or stupid.

Why not believe in God, you ask? Do you just post or don't you ever read. Try reading others' posts a bit and you should have a laundry list of good reasons not to believe in God, starting with his non-existence. If that's not enough, then there's the worthiness issue: is his personality worthy of worship (should he exist)? After that, which of the many gods to believe in.

Don't you reject at least one or two other religions?

And why? (Have you asked yourself these questions?)
