I seriously just had a guy I was seeing tell me that he could never see himself marrying me because I don't believe in god.
I'm a little angry and a little proud at the same time. I'm proud that I've taken a stand and will not back down.
Although, I still want to tell him he's a selfish prick and I'm a better human being than he is despite my belief system.
I think a difference in religious belief is a valid reason to stop seeing someone but he strung me along and then dropped this on me out of nowhere. He owes me money too. Ass.

Where can I meet nice boys who don't believe in fairy tails?

"I would not convert for love."

Good.

"I would not marry someone else and try to convert them. It's not fair to either party involved."

Good.

"I think I could marry someone who believed in god but only if it didn't interfere with our relationship or with how we chose to raise our children. I don't want to be an atheist and my husband take our kids to church.
There would have to be a large amount of mutual respect for each others opinions and beliefs."

Good. You are not close minded. However, can you overcome the practical matters at hand? Could you truly respect a theistic lover's belief system? Would you allow for a compromise on indoctrination of your children?

First of all, the guy was definitely being an ass, particularly since he knew all along.

Second, don't give up hope. There are plenty of good guys out there that would not only not mind your being an atheist, but see it as an advantage.

A difference in belief can definitely be a valid reason to end a relationship, but he handled it all wrong. Not to mention that he definitely should have paid you back what he owed you.

I for one had no problem dating someone who was a theist, she believed in God but never attended church on any regular basis or made any attempt to ever even mention her beliefs to me... it really wasn't any different from dating an atheist I'd imagine. The problems stemmed from when she began to expect our children to go to church, and no.. no comprimises are possible there. I flatly refuse to allow my children to be pushed into religion, instead I plan to give them the tools they need to choose for themselves.. whatever that choice may be. Had she regularly attended church, or had religion interfered with our relationship on some regular basis we may have had other difficulties, but children aside there really aren't too many problems with dating someone with different beliefs. In the end our values are all that really matter, not why those values exist.

My wife was the first (openly) atheist girl I met and dated, and I was 26 when that happened. We were both grad students in science fields. Go where the nerds are! :)

Somewhat true, most of my evolution class was still theist though. At least they didn't believe in intelligent design by the end of that semester.
