Tonight, keep an eye on this page on the Think Atheist Radio Show at 5PM Pacific/8PM Eastern we're featuring what can be considered the bookend to our very first interview. John W. Loftus is a former Christian minister and apologist with M.A., M.Div., and Th.M. degrees in Philosophy, Theology, and the Philosophy of Religion from Lincoln Christian Seminary and Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. While in school he majored under Drs. James D. Strauss and William Lane Craig. He is the founder of the blog Debunking Christianity. Just a slight bit more than a year ago we had Mr. Loftus on the show to discuss his thoughts on the arguments for and against God and the truth of Christianity and the tactics of Christian apologists. Those thoughts had already at that time been distilled by him into book form as Why I Became An Atheist: A Former Preacher Rejects Christianity (WIBA). Since then he has gone on to edit two other anthologies– The Christian Delusion: Why Faith Fails and The End of Christianity. But now, with five years elapsing since he first submitted his manuscript for WIBA to the publisher, he's gone back to the book to substantially revise and expand it for a 2nd edition. As I indicated in my Bookmarks post on the Think Atheist Radio Show blog, I found the book to include a great deal of new material. And even what was included in the first has been punched up. Bottom line: what was already a highly recommended book is now even better. We were glad to have Mr. Loftus join us to discuss the book!

How is the change in the diagnostic criteria for autism changing how we view and report the prevalence of the condition? And how is that change impacting the treatment of people with the condition?

Despite oppression, black atheists struggle to be heard.

Lawrence Kruass: "New revelations in science have shown what a remarkable universe we live in", a universe without purpose.

Jerry Coyne comments on a quite critical review of Lawrence Krauss's A Universe From Nothing saying, "I thought I was the only one..."

The discovery of a 1 million year old fireplace is providing clues to human evolution.

Most "likely voters", even Republicans, want a presidential debate on science.

So... CERN, LHC, Higgs, Higgs, Higgs... But, why haven't we found it yet?

You know when I tell you that a link is a must click, it's a must click. This is a must click. An incredible 20,000x2,000 pixels end product shrunk down from data amounting to 150 billion pixels and includes a billion stars in the image!!!! It's pan and zoomable and just amazing.

British PM David Cameron delivered a hypocritical and disingenuous speech to religious leaders.

So far our feathered dinosaurs have tended to be small; the size of chickens and turkeys. Not any more. This freakin thing was the size of a tyrannosaur!

Debunking the notion of the US's great moral decline, favored by Republicans.

Another super cool link for you guys: "cultural mimicry" in a caterpillar species; it actually glues flowers to its back as camouflage. When the flowers wilt and brown it just glues new ones on. Several pics here of them in action.

Two new papers slay a favored climate change denialist trope, that previous warming periods in the paleoclimate record occurred as temperature first, greenhouse gases second. Turns out, nope.

Thai police do nothing as numbers of lesbians are being murdered.

PZ Myers wrote this week to ask a group of atheists against abortion not to try to justify their superstitious magical views with science.

Also from PZ comes this infographic plotting all the fossil and geographic evidence within the timespan allowed by Creationism. Turns out the last dinosaurs died in March of 1927. Hmph. Who knew?? LOL

So it goes like this: idiot atheist gets schooled a couple years back by Matt Dillahunty on The Atheist Experience for being... an idiot of course... same guy recently found out he's going blind... Christians in his area raise money for him... he says he's become a...... news outlets predictably go bonkers... idiot atheist then says "Nah. I changed my mind again." LOL. As several have said when he said he'd become a Christian... They can have him.

Sam Harris wrote this week to describe the differences between his views on free will to those of Daniel Dennett, says some kind of dialog between them is in the works.

How would humans react to first contact from an alien world?

Peter Boghossian: "To profess things you don't know for certain, and then claim the reason for your justification is faith? That doesn't contribute to the conversation. That's the end of the conversation." An entertaining interview full of emphatic head nodding moments.

Does the early universe harbor evidence of a time before the Big Bang?

Love this series of quotes by well known persons explaining what science is.

Unusual for a dinosaur egg, these 70 million year old specimens are roughly the size of a jumbo chicken's egg.

Nearby star may have more planets than we do. Amazing.

The relationship between stars and their planets can be a rocky one (get it?) when the star eats a planet.

Meanwhile, black hole powered planets move at the speed of subatomic particles!

A new survey says there are lots more nonreligious Hispanics that I think most of us would have guessed.

Grab the box of tissues and read this. People really can make a difference when they just THINK.

Why it's so important for military atheists to come out. The "NO REL PREF" option taken in order to avoid being out can lead to real consequences.

Prayer: still doesn't work. This time exam takers did no better when they prayed first.

The 3 Levels of Skepticism. What each does for us, and why we should strive to reach the top level. Which level are you honestly? Are you even a Level 1? What do you need to learn to get to the next level?

Interesting new data has implications for the question of where the Moon came from

If there's one thing in which Christians DON'T believe, it's freedom of religion, or the toleration of anyone who believes anything other than their particular magic man in the sky. That's clear by her truncated list of "religions" - ONLY Christian sects.

Dale that is so true...if you believe in their god, then you go to hell while you go to heaven.   Its funny how that person(s) will go to hell when there is not such a place therefore if no hell then there is no heaven....what a concept!
