My definition of Easter would be a superstitious ritual that has no place in modern times. Whats your definition?
A holiday where parents buy their children pretty baskets with chocolate bunnies and jelly beans inside and the children get to play a game of finding prettily decorated boiled eggs outside hidden in the new spring grasses. I think it is worth it just for that because that's just something fun to do once a year.
A lovely pagan rite of spring, birth, renewal, budding, planting.... life.
I have no problem with that celebration ;-).
How about "stuck in Our nation's Capitol because our Navy said they had to move me in fiscal year 11/12 and the house on the coast isn't ready to sell and I can't afford to fly home for the four-day weekend"? Looks like its a weekend of theaters and museums for me.
removing my tongue from my cheek, I now return you to your regulary scheduled commentaries.
In my Easter a goldfish leaves Lincoln Logs in my sock drawer! I haven't still figured it out yet but it might have something to do with me being a Bill Hicks fan or it could be an immaculate conception!?
The only problem with the pagan thing from what I have read they tended to sacrifice virgins in some of their rituals. So the pagan thing to me is just as bad as the Christian one.
I think that regardless of its origins, Easter is now a very commercial holiday. It's something fun to indulge in once a year, otherwise, there is not much significance.
Easter is an ingrained part of the series of economic opportunities for candy makers. I don't know her name but the God of Sugar will certainly be pleased!
Easter is the wonderful season during which I can buy and eat as many 'Peeps' as humanly possible without going into diabetic shock! Really, I love any form of 'seasonal' candy...
I wonder how Christians celebrated Easter before chocolate? I imagine a pagan sacrifice of some kind. The rape of an innocent child. The torture of a witch (because they're were lots of them around back in the day), perhaps the stoning of an intellectual human being who dared to portray intelligence.
Gee, we really missed out on all those days didn't we? Makes ya almost want to be Muslim ay?
