I joined this community last year not really knowing what it was about but I was looking for other open minded free thinkers and ended up here. It took me a few months to actually look into the community and jump in but when I did, I dove right in head first. I jumped in so fast I never really got a chance to introduce my self so here I am.

Hi everyone. I'm Danny and I have been a full blown Atheist for about ten years now. Like most mexicans I was raised Roman Catholic and with my mothers influence I participated in church activities and I was confirmed when I was sixteen. I can not remember the exact moment I had doubts about my religion but as far back as I can remember I have always enjoyed and respected science and dismissed any teaching in the bible that contradicted it. Not long after I turned eighteen and moved away from the influence of my mother and I rejected my religion and although I did not know how to define my beliefs at the time I became an Agnostic. Initially I kept my beliefs to myself and avoided or even lied about it every time the subject of religion would come up.

I can remember the exact moment I became a full blown Atheist and that was when I read "God Is Not Great" by Christopher Hitchens. I initially discovered him as a commentator on a news program where he delivered a vicious "Hitchslap" and I was drawn in by his mastery of the English language. Soon after I came out to my family and friends and I have since gone on to read other books by Atheist favorites and I now search for other like minded free thinkers.

I have a strong appetite for intellectual stimulation and social environments with open minded free thinkers.

Hello there! I really enjoyed what you had to say about being atheist and Hispanic. I also had a deep and persistent love of science and had used it to the extent that people where willing to let me use it to explain the universe I lived in. Currently I am studying Biology and I have a dream that I might just go into physics. I have been trying to find other Hispanics that might have my same views. I mean that are non-believers, because there are a lot of agnostics out there. In any case this really made me feel better and I am grateful that you shared this.
