Crazy Things About Bible God That Make You Think?

God judges us not by our character and deeds in life but solely by whether or not we worshiped him strongly enough.

Now think about what that says about your god.

He's more concerned with you being a fanboi than with how you lived your life.

I started losing my faith after a classmate asked the teacher what happened to non-Catholics after they died. The answer was simple "they go to hell." The fact that they might have been good people who devoted their lives to… Continue

Things Christians Should Know Before Talking to an Atheist

* Hitler was NOT an atheist.

* Morality is not a “believers only” state of conscience. Morality existed before the Bible was put together and translated, etc.

* Do NOT pray for us or indicate the notion to perform your ritualistic mumbo jumbo. There are millions of others that are ill and starving that might appreciate your spells of madness. These are the people that your so called “God” ignores or… Continue

“What If You’re Wrong?”

I remember telling a Christian about my disbelief in a god or ANY higher power. We used different philosophical scenarios to strengthen our own points of views during our debate/discussion. “Atheism vs. Christianity” debates are quite common in internet discussion forums, blogs and message boards. They are usually heated discussions and sometimes the name-calling begins. Once in a while a Christian will ask an atheist “What if you’re… Continue

How to Avoid Looking Like an American Tourist

Four Americans in Milan.

As an American traveling in a foreign country, the last thing you want to do is stand out like a sore thumb. Not only do you have a greater chance of getting sucked into tourist traps, but you're also a more obvious target for getting mugged or even kidnapped. So, are you aware of the things you do, say, and wear that make you look like the stereotypical tourist?

Clothing

1. Ditch the athletic shoes.… Continue

Materialism

A corollary to atheism is materialism, in the philosophical sense. I don't believe there is anything supernatural in the universe. Although there are of course many things we don't understand, I don't think there is any reason in principle why we can not understand them.

In particular, I don't believe there is such a thing as a soul, or a mind separate from the body. Our selves and our consciousness are solely the result of chemical and… Continue

Ethics

When I discuss atheism with other people, which does not happen often, they sometimes bring up ethics. Some people even question how it is possible for an atheist to behave ethically. Of course, such a question implies that the questioner only acts ethically because they must, perhaps through fear of hell or a desire to look good for god. I doubt this is actually the case for most people.

It's true, of course, that atheism by itself does not address ethical questions. Nevertheless, I… Continue

Proselytizing

It should be clear from my reasons for choosing to be an atheist that I have no interest in convincing other people to become atheists. I think people should choose to live in the universe which they prefer. I don't think that somebody who believes in god is wrong; they just follow a different faith. After all, many people who believe in different gods are able to live together comfortably, despite the clear contradictions between their faiths.

Of course, some religions include the… Continue

Religious Belief in General

I think that most people have an opinion about the overall nature of the universe and about the role which humanity plays in the universe. (I've met people who don't, but I think they are a small minority.)

What I mean by this is that most people have some sort of answer to questions like

Why is there something rather than nothing?

Why are we here?

What happens to us after we die?

How can we tell right from wrong?

Many people are… Continue

Why Atheism Makes Me Happier

Atheism makes me happier for the simple reason that it means that I am responsible for my own choices in life.

I find the traditional Judeo-Christian god to be very paternalistic (hardly an original thought, I know). We can be good children and obey, or we can be bad children and rebel. We have no other choices, and we will never grow up—to god, we will always be children. Some people have told me that they find this to be comforting.… Continue
