The Santa questions start firing at you before your kids turn five. How does he speed around the world in a single night? How does he know what I want? Sure, you could deny Santa's existence, but be ready for some tears.
The good news is, there are perfectly reasonable answers to the many questions relating to his annual mission. The bad news: The science involved is typically beyond the mental reach of the average six year… Continue

The decision by the Australian government to ditch the Christian calendar in school history books has been met by anger. Continue
Instead of BC (Before Christ) and AD (Anno Domini), the curriculum will use BCE (Before Common Era) and CE (Common Era) instead.
The change in abbreviations does not equate to a change in dates, but the Archbishop of Sydney the Most Rev Peter Jensen has described BCE and CE as “meaningless”.
He said the move yesterday was an “intellectually…

In a small Texas town, a bar began construction on a new building to increase their business.. The local Baptist church started a campaign to block the bar from opening with petitions and prayers. Work progressed right up till the week before opening when lightning struck the bar and it burned to the ground.
The church folks were rather smug in their outlook after that, until the bar owner sued the church on the grounds that the church was…

Response to that old theist fallback, "You can't prove God doesn't exist":
"You can't prove you're not joking."
Then proceed to insist they must be joking about their belief in God, and that they don't really believe it, they're just trolling you.
Good one theist, you almost got me - but nobody could really believe that stuff! Via: Reddit

This is LAGEOS. Since 1976, this perfect disco sphere has been orbiting Earth carrying 426 cube corner reflectors made of fused silica glass—except four, made of germanium. It also contains a coded message, designed by Dr. Carl Sagan.
The message was duplicated in two 4 x 7-inch stainless steel plates and contains several codes telling things about Earth. The first… Continue

The Patrician took a sip of his beer. "I have told this to few people, gentlemen, and I suspect I never will again, but one day when I was a young boy on holiday in Uberwald I was walking along the bank of a stream when I saw a mother otter with her cubs. A very endearing sight, I'm sure you will agree, and even as I watched, the mother otter dived into the water and came up with a plump salmon, which she subdued and dragged onto a…

Completely over the top, utterly ridiculous
video for the 2011 National Day of Prayer. Like what is the message
here supposed to be? That Christians can somehow stave off the Apocalypse and natural disasters by praying? I thought the end of the world and Jesus coming back were the whole point?
Now I’m confused.
And what’s with the shitty bombastic music?… Continue

The Sphinx and the Pyramids of Giza were all built by 2500 BCE, before the Bible says Noah’s flood occurred.
According to the Bible in the year 2348 BCE the earth was plunged into a global flood which killed everyone everywhere because everyone was doing everything naughty (except Noah and his immediate family).
How do we know the Bible says 2348 BCE for the flood? Because in the 17th century an Irish fellow named James Ussher… Continue

To achieve a greater understanding of the world, its societies and the common issues that face them, one must be comfortable with the fact that there is no polarity, no sole perpetrator of evil that is causing all the world's ills. There is no devil, and there is no messiah; all humans contain a certain duality (that allows them to perform great acts of selflessness and still remain corrupt, despicable people). All people across the world have the ability to control their disposition towards or… Continue
