GLEE: In Grilled Cheesus We Pray

(SPOILER: If anyone here watches Glee, and hasn’t had a chance to watch the latest episode, you might not want to read this just yet.)

Muslim Calls for Censorship Under the Guise of 'Religious Intolerance'

I'm a member of the website DeviantArt.com. For those of you who don't know what it is, it's basically a site where people can post anything ranging from photographs, to drawings, to written works, even flash programs.

The site recently added the ability to create a group, where artists with similar interests can more easily share their work.
One of the more entrepreneurial atheists on the site decided to start a group titled…

Pro TIp: When talking about your god, don't allude to other mythologies.

Joe Jervis over at Joe. My. God. tipped me off to a small story about Exodus International president Alan Chambers making a dubious Facebook posting.

It was about a lesbian couple who, after 22 years together, have now apparently decided to "accept Jesus"…

Teetering on the Edge of the Wagon

So, last weekend, I went to this giant conference in Anaheim, CA called RE Congress (http://www.recongress.org) It for Catholic Religious Educators. As I've said before, I still spend a good part of my time helping my mom out in the church, and this including going to conferences such as these.
To tell the truth, I had a great time. Of course, it was only a five day trip, with 1.5 days spent at the conference, 1.5 days spent sight seeing in and around…

Cigarettes and Chaplains: Bad for the Military, Good for the Troops?

Recently there's been a lot of talk on wether or not the military is going to ban smoking for it's enlisted men and women. I have mixed feelings about it.

I think it would be good, obviously, if the people who have to run around carrying the heavy guns, avoiding enemy fire, didn't smoke. They'd be healthier, more efficient, and would be more prepared for true worst-case scenarios (that's saying something for the military).

Think of it this way:…

My Sordid Love Affair with Liberal Churches

I've sort of talked about this before, but it seems to be a subject I just can't seem to escape: The ever-present allure of 'Liberal' Christians. Namely, the one's who accept (or, at least, don't outright reject) gays and lesbians, evolution, and have more lax policies on things like Reconciliation (Confession) and the ultimate, unquestioning power of the Vatican (they tend to question it).

I have heard some different ideas on why it's so easy for some people to be 'sucked…

Lent/Easter; Not as fun as No-Guilt/Christmas!

Today is Ash Wednesday. That means the start of Lent. And wouldn't you know it, my favorite e-card website, someecards.com, has provided a number of cards which finely encapsulate how I'm feeling during this time.

The biggest thing I don't like about Lent, is the biggest thing I don't like about Christianity in general: the constant, overwhelming feeling of shame…

Facebook Debate: The Purpose of Sex

So, this discussion is still on-going (more or less) but I thought I'd post it here anyway for anyone who would like to read it.

It all started when one of my xtian friends posted this picture:

Along with the caption: "Seriously, do it for the kids. Doesn't get more Catholic/Pro Life than that."

It should be noted that he posted this in a folder labeled "Random/Funny/Sarcastic Humor/etc"

However, because… Continue

Liberal Religionists: A Lesser of Two Evils?

I know I said I was going to post about something else first, but I've been thinking about this topic a lot lately.

As I'm sure most of you know, a few days ago, the Catholic Church offered something of a warped olive branch to the Anglican Church, saying that if any of their members were unsettled by the fact that the Anglicans were (gasp!) allowing women and gays to be ministers, they could simply defect back to the Catholics, where a warm and welcomed seat would be waiting for… Continue

Tell Me What My Beliefs Are

Sorry about the long absence. A cold, followed by midterms, makes for an overly long dry-spell. Also, a quick note regarding the earlier posts: I've gone back and fixed all of the names of the people I talked to. I may be thinking of the wrong person, but at least I'm using the correct name now.

Now, on to the main point of this post.

As I've probably mentioned before, my mother is a youth minister at the local church. What this means, is that she is essentially the Sunday… Continue

My Idea of Fun: An Impromptu, Three-Hour Discourse with a Creationist

(A quick side note about all of the names in the post: I'm terrible at names, and I can't really remember anyone's just yet. So they're probably wrong, or attributed to the wrong people. I might go back and fix them once I find out the actual names.)

Sorry for the delay in posting this. At first I was just going to take a small break over the weekend, then I caught the bug that was going around while at the local church picnic. (Apparently, that blessing of the food didn't do too… Continue

Misusing the word Truth

Firstly, I would like to thank everyone who has commented on my first post. The level of support is pretty amazing, and I've gotten plenty of great ideas already. Thanks a lot, everyone!

Now, on to the main point.

The first real debate I had with the Apologetics was a few days ago at their weekly meeting.

I got there a few minutes early, and sat near the front of the room, just listening to everyone. They really weren't talking about anything; someone needed an ethernet… Continue

The First of Many Headaches...

I attend a small, local college in Northwest Florida, right along the southern part of the Bible Belt.

The college isn't very big, and just recently upgraded from a simple community college to a full four-year college. Many of us call it 13th grade, and it makes for a very tight-nit feeling with many of the students and professors, which is nice.

For as long as I've attended (over three years now, including dual-enrollment during the latter part of high school), there has always… Continue
