Jeeesh! There are so many hyper-critical people everywhere you go these days, most especially on the internet. I can't post anything, no matter how benign, without someone finding a reason to pick it apart; and they don't bother to try and be polite about it, that's for sure. It kind of makes me not want to post anything at all. It's sad, because here on TA, I thought that I had found a place to discuss things with other people in a rational matter, but all I usually get is more of the same…Continue
Before I even get into this, I would like to say that I am an Atheist and I do not beleive that a man named Jesus Christ even existed, let alone that we should be following the teachings of a man who lived over 2000 years before us.
Every two days or so I see a meme or post come across my newsfeed about how this country is a Christian nation founded on Christian beliefs. This is usually in reference to how the gay community is ruining our nation or has some hidden agenda to turn all…Continue
I am mot going to point any fingers, mention any names, or point to any specific threads/blogs (because I'm cool like that - lol), but I am beginning to have a problem here on TA.
Usually I don't have a problem finding good, intellegent, rational, conversation on TA. If I post an opinion/question, make a comment/pose a question on other peoples' posts, I can usually count on a two-way chat where we can comment and ask questions of one another in order to better undersrtand where the…Continue
I work at a public library. To say that the library attracts all kinds of patronage is an understatement. We attract everyone from the frugal upper-middle class (sometimes even the very wealthy, depending on what's going on during any given working day), to the homeless. Of course, this also includes everything from mildly religious people to an alarming number of people who see the Bible as the unfailing, perfect word of God. How do I know this, you ask? Simply by observing the books they…Continue
I just had an interesting exchange on facebook, just thought I would share. JL is the person with whom I was having the discussion and ME is, well, me: (all spelling and punctuation errors were part of the original text, as I have copied and pasted all of this exactly as it was written).

I have a dilema here. It's not a huge, global dilema, I realize that. But it is something that bothers me non the less, and I thought that I might get someone else's (atheist) take on the situation.
Ok, I like to go to resale shops to buy clothing. I think that retail stores WAY overcharge people, and I like the idea of recycling clothing - but that is just my personal opinion and is just a side note. My problem is that I live in a VERY SMALL Northern Michigan town (pop.…Continue
Ok, the Christians who are my Facebook friends have reached a new, previously undiscovered level of stupidity. Or is it ignorance... I can't decide.
I have just been asked if I, because I do not believe in God/Jesus, give back the extra money that I recieve as holiday pay for the Christmas holiday. (!!!!) And, if not, was I not being hypocritical??
Would you give back the money?
I guess that I do not feel that I am accepting the money on the pretense…Continue
When you run into a person that you haven't seen in, oh, say, 5-8 years and they tell you 'you're in my prayers all the time', do you think they are actually telling you the truth? Do you think they actually think of you and include you in their prayers whenever they pray?
Whenever I hear someone say this, I always have to think to myself "Hmmm... I think this person has prayers mixed up with thoughts". Or, maybe they see themselves as so very pious that they consider prayers and…Continue
I have almost 700 Facebook freinds. Obviously, not all of them are Atheists, as I am. What I find most interesting (and maddening!) is that I can sift through my friends' posts every day and see at least 10 that contain some sort of pro-religious statement, or piece of scripture, or an invitation to 'like' some religious/faith based group (the 'Bring prayer back to public schools' group comes to mind here), and I don't feel the need to make any comment, derogatory or otherwise, about any of…Continue
