Burn the Koran Day

by Tommi Avicolli-Mecca, 2010-07-29

The same creepy Gainesville, Florida folks who gave us the “no homo

mayor” campaign (to protest an openly gay candidate for mayor) and who

claim that queers hate good ol’ American free speech because they “don’t

want to hear the truth about their perverted lifestyles,” will now

present “International Burn a Koran Day.” To commemorate…

Americans’ Role Seen in Uganda Anti-Gay Push

KAMPALA, Uganda — Last March, three American evangelical Christians, whose teachings about “curing” homosexuals have been widely discredited in the United States, arrived here in Uganda’s capital to give a series of talks.

The theme of the event, according to Stephen Langa, its Ugandan organizer, was “the gay agenda — that whole hidden and dark agenda” — and the threat homosexuals posed to Bible-based… Continue

More Sex Please, You're Artists

By: Jonathan Jones

There isn't enough sex in the arts today. Look back at the 20th century and the whole point of modernism was to liberate the carnal. DH Lawrence, priest of love, competed to shock the last survivors of the Victorian age with James Joyce, who rambled uninhibited to detail Leopold Bloom's underwear fantasies. In art, Picasso introduced the modern age with… Continue

Just an Idea

So this idea just sort of hit me. We the Atheist community are against the attempted theocracy that the religious lobby's attempt to create day in and day out. I think we need to join other fights other than just the basic ones. Many of us, I have gauged from discussions posted on this site, support things such as Gay rights. It doesn't have to be just Gay rights. Anything that you feel like protesting, if you go to these events we need to get… Continue

The Big Gay Chip on My Shoulder

I am a straight man, with a big gay chip on my shoulder.

A while back on my Twitter page (yes, I know how ridiculous it sounds), I mentioned that, if I believed in the devil, Pat Robertson might be him.

Being a fairly liberal-leaning guy with either liberal friends or Republican and Christian friends who don't believe that being one has anything to do with the other, I was surprised at how many people took offense… Continue

Axe That Clove Creationism Found at Museum After 150 Years

Not sure if anyone has notice this so I thought I would pass it along. It is definitely of some interest to everyone on the site.

A lump of flint that challenged creationist history and was dubbed by an eminent archaeologist "the stone that shattered the time barrier" has been tracked down after 150 years in the vast stores of the Natural History Museum in London.

On 26 May 1859, six months before Charles Darwin shattered the… Continue

Memorial Day

Today is Memorial Day in the United States and I would like to say a few things.

First, don't let your belief's about the current wars we engaged in upstage your reverence of what this day is about. This is a day to remember and thank all men and women who served throughout the short history of our country. This is not the day to spit in a veteran's face and call him baby killer. The truth is no matter what a ideology is behind a war,… Continue

I personally hate this woman, she is disgusting and so bigoted. To me her talent in writing is her ability to come up with titles that shock and appall. Here is her column today that I saw in "Stars and Stripes."

Dear Michael Savage...we don't want you in our country...sincerely, The United Kingdom.

Surprised nobody has posted this yet, anyways I laughed so hard, but unfortunately it's going to backfire in Jacqui Smith's face.

A US radio shock jock barred from entering the UK said he would sue for defamation after his name appeared on the Home Office's list of 16 "least wanted".

Michael Savage, who hosts far-right talk show The Savage Nation, called Jacqui Smith, the home secretary, a "lunatic" and said he was… Continue

Helicopter escape for cult leader

Juliano Verbard, 27, serving a 15-year term, and two followers, were pulled on to the helicopter by three accomplices.

The accomplices had pretended to be tourists when boarding the helicopter, but then forced the pilot to land in the prison grounds before flying off.

They then landed a few hundred metres away, and drove off in a waiting van.

The island's police force said a major search was now under way for… Continue

God has a plan...

1. the absence of any cause of events that can be predicted, understood, or controlled: often personified or treated as a positive agency: Chance governs all.

2. luck or fortune: a game of chance.

6. a risk or hazard: Take a chance.

1. confidence or trust in a person or thing: faith in another's ability.

2. belief that is not based on proof: He had faith that the hypothesis… Continue

Nazi cows, Nazi cats, actors playing depressed Nazis. It's all just Hitler porn and it disgusts me

Nazi cows, Nazi cats, actors playing depressed Nazis. It's all just Hitler porn and it disgusts me!

By: Tanya Gold

There was story in the newspapers yesterday about Nazi cows. Yes. Nazi cows. As opposed to Maoist cows. There is a breed of cattle, formerly extinct, that Hitler apparently wanted to revive because it has significance in Teutonic myth. It was his favourite cow - an über-cow, as opposed to an ünter-cow - and it… Continue

Taleban 'kill love affair couple'

The Taleban in Afghanistan have publicly killed a young couple who they said had tried to run away to get married, officials say.

The man, 21, and woman, 19, were shot dead on Monday in front of a mosque in the south-western province of Nimroz.

Nimroz is an area where the Taleban have a strong influence.

Governor Ghulam Dastageer Azad told the AFP news agency the killings followed a decree by local religious… Continue

Crying on Cable News

Washington diary: Crying on cable

By Matt Frei

BBC News, Washington

When John F Kennedy's life was brutally cut short by an assassin's bullet, Walter Cronkite told America the news.

He took off his black-rimmed glasses and cleared his throat as if to dislodge a piece of unwarranted emotion, paused for a few seconds and then continued with the business of delivering the terrible… Continue

The Elephant in the Room: Sleeping with a Theist

I am not trying to put down a set of rules for dating a theist, or telling you this will work for you, what I am doing is putting down my opinions and beliefs after a long time of thinking about the question, “Can I as an atheist have a long-term relationship with a theist?” This is something that I have pondered for quite some time and currently am living it.

So I figure we’ll start with the beginning of a relationship and work from there. First you meet the person and you find out they… Continue

Hopes for the New Year....

Well it's a new year (yes I know it's a bit late) and I guess I've just been procrastinating, so here is the list:

1) The new president does a serious public relations overhaul with the rest of the world. Get the rest of the world to accept Americans again and not see them as natural resource wasting and war hungry people. I am moving to Europe in March and I want to go into a pub and not have to tell them I am a Canadian. There's nothing wrong with being a Canadian but I would not… Continue

What about a Chimpanzee/Human Hybrid to Prove Evolution?

Professor Richard Dawkins submitted the following to annual challenge to thinkers, "What Will Change Everything?"

"Our ethics and our politics assume, largely without question or serious discussion, that the division between human and 'animal' is absolute. 'Pro-life', to take just one example, is a potent political badge, associated with a gamut of ethical issues such as opposition to abortion and euthanasia.

What it really means is pro-human-life. Abortion clinic… Continue

Somedays I feel like witnessing...

Often times I find myself walking around the mall or in and out of stores and there are folks who feel like witnessing to me (witnessing is street mission work for those unfamiliar with the Christian term). Most times I'm in a hurry or they catch me when I am to tired to argue responsibly, so I kindly say, "I'm not interested," or "I'm an atheist," without stopping to give them time to argue. Then there are days where I feel like doing some of my own witnessing myself.

I would like… Continue
