2016 Presidential Election: Who do you think will run?

The New York Times published the results of a poll today in which 64% of all American adults said they would like to see Hillary Clinton run for President in 2016. Among independent voters, 52% would like to see Clinton run. These percentages are nearly double those for the most-preferred Republicans; Ron Paul, Jeb Bush, and Chris Christie. Clinton…

Happy March Equinox

Today, March 20, 2013, the day and night will be of equal length, an event which is the Vernal Equinox in the northern hemisphere and the Autumnal Equinox in the southern hemisphere. For some reason, Christians like to celebrate this as the time Jesus rose from the dead, hungering for the flesh of the living, and longing to paint chicken eggs with vinegar dye. Or something like that. Anyway, enjoy it. It only happens twice every year. The equinox I mean, not the zombie…

Thomas Jefferson and the defeat of the Romney oligarchy

I love a good Thomas Jefferson quote. Besides the Jeffersonian Bible, which removed all references to miracles and the supernatural, the author of the Declaration of Independence also wrote the following.

"But this opens with a vast accession of strength from their younger recruits, who, having nothing in them of the feelings or principles of '76, now look to a single and splendid government of an…

Polling worker questions my family on religion right before I vote

Today I wrote the following letter to the Board of Elections in my county. This is a slightly edited version that takes out a few personal details. I will post an update when (or if) I get a response.

Dear Election Commissioners:

I went to vote yesterday. My daughter was with me. She is 10 years old.

Inside the polling place, two men were sitting behind a table. One of the men looked up my name. The other man, who looked to be in his late…

Election Night in Boston

Tonight I received several text messages from friends in Boston near the Convention and Exhibition Center. Mitt Romney rented the place and was throwing a black-tie party to watch the election outcome on Fox "News".

Apparently, as the evening wore on, the oligarchy came tottering out a few at a time, somber and quiet. Every last one was wearing a frownie-face.

I only wish I'd been there to see reality bite down hard on the 1%.
