Welcome to yet another episode in my quest to review the whole TPDL.
In this chapter, we are told that everything is for the glory of god. Then we are told how this is manifested. All creatures except for Man and fallen angels bring glory to god by default. We don't so we have to be saved before we can bring glory to magic sky man. I'm not sure what the poor demons have to do to bring glory to god. Learn to sing maybe?
Now rick tells us how to bring glory to…

Welcome to another episode in my quest to review TPDL by Rick Warren.
In this chapter, he hammers on and on about how we are only on earth for a short time, and the real life is once we are dead, in heaven. This poisonous idea is I think the cornerstone of religion and religious thought, which is why I imagine he spends a whole chapter on it.
A couple of things caught my eye in the chapter:
- He speaks about how in California there are people from other…

Hello readers, welcome to another installment of my review of TPDL
In this chapter, Warren says that people have a metaphor for their life. He says he has asked people to describe their lives and he has gotten some responses like "life is a roller coaster", "life is a dance" etc.
He says that the image that you have in your mind when you visualise your life is your life metaphor, and you have to replace this with god's view of your life.
I…

Welcome to another instalment of my attempt to review the entire TPDL by Rick Warren. Today we get to the details of the Believe or Burn(tm) thread made in the last chapter.
According to Mr Warren this life is only the dress rehearsal for your "actual existence", also known as an eternity in god's fellowship. Apparently, if you know that the end of this life will not be the end of you, you will somehow live a better life. According to Warren, if you don't think that some…

Sorry its been quite a bit more than one day since the last chapter review. After having some good godless fun over the weekend (LAN party with 20 of my closest friends), it was very difficult to drag myself back to the sorry pile of steaming crap that is TPDL. (I confess, this is a review but not an impartial one)
According to Warren, people are driven by one of the following: guilt, resentment, anger, fear, materialism or the need for approval. Conveniently, he leaves out…

Here is the third instalment of my quest to review the entire "Purpose Driven Life" chapter by chapter.
Chapter two opens with a quote from Isaiah (Warren sure likes the old testament), but the second quotation in the header is by Albert Einstein, "God doesn't play dice." Note the full stop at the end. The actual quote according to Albert…

Here I am back with another instalment in my plan to review the entire TPDL
Apparently, it is not about me. What I want for my life does not matter, I should discover the purpose god intended for me.
Early on there is a good example of muddled thinking. He says "If I handed you an invention you had never seen before, you wouldn't know its purpose ... only the inventor or the owners manual could reveal its purpose" What bullshit. Of course we would be able to…

My mom gave me a copy of The Purpose Driven Life (or TPDL as it will be referred to henceforth) This was obviously an effort to re-convert me, because if I would only open my eyes and see, how could I remain an atheist?
Its been mouldering on my bookshelf for about a year, but it caught my eye again a few days ago (when the sci-fi books from the library were all read and I was bored), and then I decided that I would read it. Of course, as per my handle, I will read…
