Sibling Guilt Trip

So over the holidays my sister and her husband come from out of state to visit with Mom and the rest of us. During that time we had a private discussion about theism and my lack of participation. Zeal? What zeal?

As an atheist I often ponder the peculiar absence of evangelical zeal in 99% of monotheists. To me the realization of the existence of an absolute power & creator would generate an uncontrollable zest to "get the word out." If I awoke everyday and remembered that there really was this supernatural power monitoring mankind's existence how could I not be provoked to seek out and tell EVERYONE? What Darwin Never Knew

Last night on PBS NOVA aired a new showed entitled "What Darwin Never Knew." It is 2 hours of fascinating insight on recent scientific developments into the "how to's" of evolutionary biology. Explanations on homo sapien's brain expansion, DNA switches, analysis of the human genome, and genetic mutation are clearly and graphically presented. I really can't recommend this particular programming enough. The god equation loses great "face" in the process.

Let The Mother Die???

I am a little worked up right now. I just viewed a segment on CBS Sunday Morning about a Catholic hopital in Phoenix, Arizona involved in the termination of a pregnancy by a mother of four. Apparently the woman developed severe complications and was facing heart failure and imminent death. The chief surgeon of the hospital decided to save her life and performed the abortion after consent from the staff ethics board headed by a sister nun.
