The recently broadcast documentary by Frontline on the inner workings of the Vatican in Rome was quite illuminating and, at times, shocking. Accusations of the Vatican Bank laundering large amounts of underworld money, homosexual activity among, not only the priests, but the highest ranked Vatican officials, mishandling of the pedophilia scandal , and the continuing power struggle between Pope and Cardinals are all brought to light. I was especially shocked by the video evidence that…Continue

Just spent an hour or so reviewing the legislative proposals/bills for the past year submitted by our esteemed elected politicians here in Arkansas. The state senator from my area is a real PITA. She managed to spearhead changing the abortion law to 4 months max after which it is a crime unless incest or rape is involved. Not happy with that she then submitted a bill to limit and severely control the application of morning after type chemical substances. Fortunately it…Continue

Merrill Newman was finally released by the North Korean government after being detained for nearly a month. This 85 year old was a military veteran of the Korean War.
"A statement published by KCNA last week said that during a recent visit to the country, Newman attempted to meet with surviving soldiers he had trained during the Korean War to fight North Korea, admitted he was "a criminal" who was involved in the killing of civilians during the 1950-53 Korean War, and carried…Continue
Had my hair blown back today by my Mom. She told my wife that she went to her methodist church minister and had her dog blessed and baptized. She says now she doesn't have to worry about what will happen to her beloved pooch after it dies. Huh?
Is this a common thing for widowed elderly women to do? I am troubled that she is losing perspective on what constitutes a healthy relationship with her pet. This dog is more important than anything or anyone at this point in her life. I own…Continue
It seems like there is a real propensity for these church buses to go off course. Here's another.
Are the religious so feeble-minded that they cannot see that their imaginary friend doesn't alter reality?
The Fort Hood mass murdering, islamic Army major gets his wish:
I guess he is drooling over those eagerly anticipated…Continue
I believe Christie's legislation is the first of it's type passed in the U.S. I am sure many New Jersey teens are breathing a welcome sigh of relief. Conversion therapy needs to go on the dusty shelf right next to shock treatments.
Went to a local annual motorcycle event yesterday to take in the sights and sounds. Wonderfully cool for August BTW. I was talking to a couple fellows from 'off' and we were discussing the local rides that are great for motorcycling. Then I warned them about one particular road that has a habit of devouring riders who can't cope with it's demanding off camber turns and such. I mentioned that each year usually one or more riders become a fatality on this particular route. One of them…Continue
After disagreeing with the biological father (they were seperated) about which last name her newborn son would adopt a Tennessee woman proceeded to plead her case to a child support magistrate. The magistrate took note of the child's intended first name (Messiah) and informed the mother that she would not authorize the child adopting this particular name because there was only one person who should rightfully be bestowed with that name - Jesus Christ.
The woman has contacted legal…Continue
Church deacon Jeff Leffew said in a Sunday news conference, after the ill-fated church bus returned from church camp but wrecked close to home killing three and injuring numerous others, "We're going to have a long road, but God is good."
The needle on the cognitive dissonance meter must be pegged right now...…Continue
The link is to a live feed at the US Botanical Gardens in Washington DC. They call it the corpse flower because of the unbelievable stench it generates during the short bloom period.
This plant blooms rarely and is one of the largest blooms in the world. It currently is almost 8 feet high! Mother Earth & evolution provide us with breathtaking flora & fauna....Continue
While sitting in the parking lot of a local grocery store waiting on my wife I had a vehicle pass by with an interesting state license plate. Here in Arkansas, as in other states I'm sure, you can get personalized plates or plates of a specific theme if you cough up the extra moolah. This particular plate had a picture of the Little Rock state capitol with the emboldened words next to it: In GOD WE TRUST. I thought this represented a very specific violation of church and…Continue
So I am shopping on the phone to find a local certified mechanic to install a new engine in my wife's truck. It was recommended to call a specific mechanic shop about fifty miles away. After talking to the shop owner's wife for about ten minutes because he was tied up with customers she finally said something to the effect that "we don't like to take new customers as we stay busy with our existing clientele." I commented I thought this was an odd business philosophy. She then proceeded to…Continue

It is interesting that the theists claim that their god created "all creatures great and small." This is an image of a deep sea creature called the humpback angler fish. It is one of the most gruesome, hideous looking, and downright terrifying creatures I have ever seen. It was in the most recent issue of Smithsonian magazine about the bioluminescence of ocean inhabitants. This strange fish has a "fishing pole" attached above it's eyes that moves up and down in front of it's formidable…Continue
I suppose it was only a matter of time before God dropped the dating ball and allowed one of it's devotees to fall victim to another one of it's devotees. ChristianMingle's omnipotent, omniscient gawd seems to be suffering from a lapse of attention to matters here…Continue

The "DJesus Uncrossed" skit on Saturday Night Live was a parody that depicted the Christian savior as one of Quentin Tarantino's latest blood and guts shoot um up stars. It definitely garnered a response from the 'holier than thou's' who didn't appreciate the humor. I wonder why the major networks lack the balls to mock the other religion's holy figures? Is the fallout really going to be any more elevated? It would be nice to see these broadcasting companies paint ALL the religions in a…Continue

It is interesting that a creature such as ourselves could walk upon this earth for seventy or eighty years and live a narcissistic, self absorbed, hedonistic lifestyle and not a give a damn about anything or anyone and then, at the very end of things, express repentance and seek that divine forgiveness that grants everlasting life in the hereafter. If this is how it could truly work in a world where the supernatural actually existed it seems like you're being a sacred scoundrel of sorts.…Continue

A half billion dollars later Al-jezeera is the new owner of Current TV. This should level the playing ground some what here in the US. We now have another news source to counter the corporate propaganda spewed out by the likes of CNN, FOX, NBC, etc.
They are not to be taken lightly. Whether they have a specific agenda remains to be seen.
