Yesterday the Indiana governor signed the bill passed by their legislature that allows businesses the right to deny service to the homeosexual segment of their state. The so-called valid reason for the law is respecting religious belief. Our country continues to operate like it is still in the Dark Ages. There is certainly going to be lawsuits and probably loss of revenue when organizations decide to hold such things as conventions elsewhere.
Today the Arkansas State Senate approved a bill 27-3 to allow a private firm, with private monies, to erect a monument on the Capitol grounds that would display the Xtian Ten Commandments. It now goes to the House. Since our state has been recently abducted by the Republican Party -attorney general, governor, Senate majority, House majority- there has been a plethora of legislation attempting to promote their god and make life hard on the likes of illegal aliens, the poor, college kids,…Continue
Read an article in Smithsonian about the efforts of a secretive group in the African nation of Mali to rescue the large volume of ancient Arabic manuscripts that resided in Timbuktu. The Islamist insurgents (Al queda ?) who had force-ably taken over the northern territories of Mali were uncomfortable with the existence of the manuscripts. Why? Evidently anyone who studied the manuscripts discovered that the religion of Islam actually supported religious tolerance. It was evident…Continue

Is your life in need of a little more excitement? Bored? If you have the credentials then....
America is in hot pursuit of willing mercenaries to fight the "good fight" against the bad guys in Iraq/Syria. Starting pay is a guaranteed $120,000 and I believe they provide the ammunition. It's HIGHLY recommended you carry a suicide pill in the event you're captured by ISIS. I would…Continue

In responding to a phone message left by a potential customer I called back to see what they wanted. We discussed what they were looking for and whether I could accommodate their woodworking request. Then there was this: "So what church do you go to?" I explained that I was not religious and therefore had no need to attend any church. They commented that they would leave a "pew" open for me.
Is it just ignorant southern U.S. fundamentalist Christians that make these assumptions about…Continue
Little Rock, Ark. • Two Arkansas legislators said Wednesday it is inappropriate to honor Martin Luther King Jr. and the leader of the Confederate Army on the same day and proposed ending the state's decades-old tradition of honoring Robert E. Lee.
Arkansas is one of just three states to jointly celebrate King, the black civil-rights leader, and Lee, the white Confederate general, on the third Monday of January. Some have labeled the practice…Continue
Sometimes we can be surprised by the comments of an author when reading a book. I am currently reading a book first published in 1878 concerning the inner workings of a honeybee hive. The author, L.L. Langstroth, was one of the first individuals to propose using what is today the 'frame and box' method of housing honey bees; a movable comb hive, if you will.
In the book much discussion is presented about the impregnation of the queen and the ratio of drone to worker bee eggs that are…Continue

A "Festivus Pole" has been erected & warmly received at Tallahassee's capitol building for the 2nd straight year. Chaz Steven's likes keeping the religious displays in check. He has an upbeat cheery attitude about it all. And this is in…Continue
My state of Arkansas, and Tennessee & Missouri were fortunate enough to be targeted for this season's Yuletide message! The Bible Belt needs all the help it can get. I am almost ready to drive the 125 miles one way to Fort Smith just to see…Continue
The benefits of tax evasion enjoyed by the freeloading preachers, ministers, rabbis, & imans of the United States will continue after the 7th district Appeals Court overruled a previous finding that the "longstanding clergy housing allowance was unconstitutional." The Appeals Court once again brought up the issue that the plaintiff (FFRF) has no "standing" in the matter and therefore the case amounts to nothing but a grievance. Bullshit.…Continue
The Rosetta spacecraft that successfully landed on the comet, known as 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko, was off the mark by one kilometer. Not bad when you consider the distance involved to get there. But now it sits on the comet in a location that doesn't allow the sun to recharge the solar array. Game over for now.…Continue

Well the Obama administration managed to gain freedom for the two American bozos detained and in prison in North Korea. Bozo #1 was trying to spread the gospel of Jeebus and arrange for the overthrow of the current regime. I am sure the current Korean god/dictator was not amused.
After his arrival Bozo #2 tore up his visa and announced his desire to repatriate to North Korea. Huh? Seriously?
I can only hope others around the world not judge the sanity of Americans by the dim…Continue

Salvation comes in the strangest places.
Deadatnoon.com is a website created by Gillian Bennett, 84, diagnosed with dementia (Alzheimer's) three years ago. Her disposition about choosing the right time to terminate is both admirable and sobering. I truly hope her blog can be an inspiration to others who feel it important to die with a morsel of dignity.

Until October 30 of last year there was an option to omit the words "so help me God" from the enlistment oath required by recruits/re-enlisting veterans of the USAF. Now they have dropped this option and made it statutory to pay homage to a god during enlistment/re-enlistment.
Two steps forward, one step…Continue

The signature submission deadline is over for legislative initiatives to be included in the fall ballot and the results:
1. Statewide sell of alcoholic beverages: well over the required 63,000 signatures were obtained.
2. Increase of mandatory minimum wage: same as 1. Arkansas is only one of four states that has a minimum wage below federal level and this legislation would increase it to a paltry $8.50/hr. Last raise was 8 years ago.
3. Medical marijuana initiative only…Continue
