Just A Few Things (1st Post)

I'm posting this for attention.  I feel like I need to be honest upfront.  Anyone who writes a blog wants people to read it.  With that said, this post is going to be relatively short.  My main goal is to meet like-minded people anyway, and this might seem counter-intuitive, but atheism is really only a miniscule fraction of our lives, right?

Atheism does allow us to scrape away a lot of the bullshit from our lives, though.  But I think I'm going to talk about a few things that are…

Church of England Attempt to Punish Priest over Same Sex Marriage

I'm not sure you are all aware of this, but the UK recently legalised same sex marriage and good for them.

But of course the religious organisations are usually the main groups that always have an objection to equal marriage rights. Except this time they are turning on one other own. The first Church of England priest has married his same sex partner and suffice…

How did it happen?

How did it happen?

I live alone on 10 acres and I have lots of time to think and weigh out how the world got so crazy. I watch news and when I see people who are in the highest positions of power talking about "God" and how he influences their decisions my stomach churns and I go into a cold sweat. I don't know about you but to me its scary, real scary, Its to the point where I don't want to even go out of the property unless its a absolute necessity.  Why are people who seem to have…

So a Christian doesn't tolerate my views - why be so annoyed?

Just why can’t we let some things go? Why do some things bother us more than others? Why do some things bother some people more than other people? These are things about which I deem myself to have some insight; hopefully more than some, since I’m a therapist working somewhere within the psychotherapy field.

Let’s break it down: put very simply, there are three types of recognised personalities within psychology. One is a very sensitive type, prone to traits of emotional delicateness,…

A Philosophical View

I enjoy looking at a variety of views on both theism and atheism. One argument that has intrigued me is the problem of evil which goes something like this:

Premise 1.) If God exists, then there would be no evil (immoral actions) in the world.

Premise 2.) There is (are) evil (immoral actions) in the world.

Conclusion: God does not exist.

This is a strong argument in favor of Atheism, however many would try to attack the first premise which we shall call (1). I have been… Continue

Fundie Times: Grandma's Joke Email FWD About Atheist Being Mauled To Death By Christian Bear

AN ATHEIST IN THE WOODS

l

An atheist was walking through the woods.

'What majestic trees!'

'What powerful rivers!'

'What beautiful animals!'

He said to himself.

As he was walking alongside the river, he heard

a rustling in the bushes behind him.

He turned to look. He saw a…

The Immortality of Water

I remember summers on the beach in Daytona, sea-foam on the night-shore, wind on my cheeks. I can remember the taste of those days, sweet, bitter. I can never forget the salty-smell of the water lapping on the shore, the waves crashing, redoubling, riding forth again into the barren desert of abandoned coolers, umbrellas, and towels. Those were the days you could drift out to sea, forget your name, start over as you baked in the warm sun, enveloped in the sweet scent of sun-tan lotion, the…

In the Garden of Eden

Okay.. This will sound like a silly story for kids.. It's the Islamic version of the story of Adam..

In the Garden of Eden, and that was long time ago, God created Adam in his image! He ordered all his angels to bow to Adam.

But,,,, there is a jealous guy who refused to bow to Adam...Haha

That jealous guy named Satan and that guy was smart BTW, he always like to destroy God's plan… Allah says, O Satan, why you didn't do what I…

The Fall of Atheism

Is it just me, or does everybody on here sound like pathetic politicians, just trying to make themselves sound more believable putting others down than proving themselves? Has anybody heard of the phrase, "You catch more flies with honey than vinegar?," or has the complex design of human intelligence been reduced to stupidity?

Freedom of Speech

I've seen so many groups get all upset over different issues ranging from the Occupy Wall Street movement to anti-war protesters to Creationist propaganda.  I also see from time to time the hate spewed by the Westboro Baptist Church and I cringe each time. I've seen people accuse and believe political propaganda and spout off repeated twists of the truth to serve their own agenda knowing its a lie. I've seen people con others into scams, political ideology and all around social nonsense. But…

The Blasphemy Tour

New Book Announcement (full disclosure here - I had a hand in publishing this)

The Blasphemy Tour, by Jass Richards

Two Canadian atheists go on a cross-country speaking tour of American Bible Colleges... Irreverent. Definitely irreverent.

The Blasphemy Tour — where philosophy essay meets stand-up comedy.

(In The Road Trip Dialogues, the prequel, Rev and Dylan are charged with blasphemy for adding “‘Blessed are they that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the…

The Bible & Science

The Bible is not a book of science, though the first Chapter of Genesis, as the nineteenth-century sociologist Max Weber points out, is the necessary prelude to science. It represents the first time people saw the universe as the product of a single creative will, and therefore as intelligible rather than capricious and mysterious.

Nature has no divinity. Indeed, in the Hebrew Bible, it became “undeified” as G. W. F. Hegel put it. Hegel observed (in lectures notes his students…

666 & The Antichrist

What most Christians believe is that the Antichrist is supposed to be a political/religious leader of our times, and once he shows up Jesus will (finally) return.

If they would study a little bit of history outside of the bible they would have figured out that the 666 man-beast lived and died many years ago, and of course Jesus didn't return.

But who was this personification of evil made man?

His name was Nero Claudius Caesar Augustus Germanicus, a roman…

"Resisting the Green Dragon"

I found this video while sorting through my G+ stream yesterday, and found it too alarming to not blog on the subject. This is surely enough to get your hackles up, and it should concern not only atheists, agnostics and skeptics, but every thinking human on the planet. This is surely going to be of concern in the future.

The video opens with this statement:

"In what has become one of the greatest deceptions of our day, radical environmentalism…

Socrates v. Jesus: Why Jesus' Historical Existence is more important than Socrates

I often refer to Jesus as a quasi-historical figure, a statement which drives the Christians I know into fits of apoplexy. Jerry the Evangelical Neighbor likes to fall back on the most tired of all the basic refutations.

“There is less proof for the existence of Socrates or Plato than of Jesus.” He once responded to a Facebook post of mine.

I don’t know that to necessarily be a fact. I rather doubt he does either. At least I was a philosophy major in college;…

France's New Rule (old post from livejournal.com)

Here we are again. Just after the delightful news of Gbagbo's custody and the freedom of the people of Cote d'Ivoire has finally been realized, the French president has decided to "ban the burka".

To offer my opinion, I think this new law is beyond stupidity to enforce this law on a religion. A RELIGION. I'm an Atheist, but at least I allow others to follow whatever they believe to be right. I enjoy debating those of the Christian faith (mainly because I haven't met anyone else who is… Continue
