Some more of my annotated comments on the bible story. It says the evolution and plate tectonics are strange ideas I strongly disagree with that line of thought. I have also pointed on the parts of the text where this claims are made.…

The bible story by Arthur S Maxwell is hard to miss you might have seen it in various places. Its primarily directed towards teaching kids about bible. I will be blogging about that book and blog about the questions that rise in my mind when I go through the book.…

The first part of my life was a little dysfunctional. Without getting into too much detail, I was raised non-religious and My parents were divorced by the time I was four. My parents didn't necessarily reject God, they just didn't acknowledge him. I was too young to know the difference but looking back on it, I realize that I was happy and carefree; more-so than when I was a Christian. My mom found religion when I was in about fourth grade. I didn't really think anything of it, I just went… Continue

“A Time to Come Out”
We are now accepting stories for a groundbreaking book for atheists. A Time to Come Out: Revealing Non-Belief in a Theistic World is slated for nationwide release in Spring 2012.
Hiding a part of your life from your family, friends, and colleagues is… Continue

This is not a happy story, but it is one that needs to be told.
I was raised in the RLDS church. It's basically a 'lite' version of Mormonism. Wikipedia has it under the Community of Christ. Basically, it's Protestantism with the Book of Mormon included. Anyways.
As a child, I believed that I would go to hell for masturbating, for lying, for thinking negatively about my parents, for hitting my brother. Everything was secretly a trap from the devil, trying to… Continue

I've had a relatively good life. I was never abused, impoverished or homeless. I was born with loving parents, who raised me in a Baptist household. They were missionaries for years and I was a child, impressionable and naive. I was raised on a diet of the usual well-minded christian brainwashing. But my story only becomes applicable 2009.
Till I was 15, I coasted. Sure I prayed occasionally, went to church with my parents, believed in Jesus as the lord and all that, but I… Continue

My grandfather is one of the most beloved people in my life. He has his endearing quirks, such as his strange hobbies of collecting chess boards [never seen him play them, lol] and making up wild stories about "his adventures in the land of the Pigmys." He once rented half a bee-farm on a whim and his entire house is basically a library, there isn't a single room without books in it. Some of the most bizarre books and knick-knacks I had ever seen were in his house. I had found a copy of "The… Continue

Hey guys, I'm Victoria, I'm an atheist, and here's my story-
I've been an atheist for a year now. If you've read the biography part of my profile, you'll see that I'm 13, almost 14. That's right, I've been an atheist since I was 12, almost 13. I found out about this website by Twitter, and quickly got addicted to reading other peoples stories, and reading discussions, and being recommended books. Before I go on, I need to warn you that this is probably going to be a really… Continue

So here's my little story.
The other day my buddy wants to take me to lunch at a local Mexican restaurant. So I show up a little early, sit down, and order a Corona. As I'm munching on some chips and salsa, I overhear the daughter of a couple at the next table say "I don't understand why the kids at school hate Mormons so much."
After that they were talking fairly hushed so I couldn't hear much after that. I wanted to say, "Well they probably hate atheists more and why do… Continue

I decided to go ahead and formally introduce myself to the community-so, HEY everyone! Nice to be on here :) I'm 20 years old, and can honestly say that my life up until now with religion has been TERRIBLE. Until january of this year, I was a very convinced fundamentalist Christian (surprise-surprise ;). I was convinced that Jesus Christ was lord and savior, the earth was 6000 years old, and that the earth would be ending soon. I know, I know, foolishness. But I never actually asked myself the… Continue

This is my first blog post, and probably the only one I'll make in for a long time, but this a little story, a scene that happened in my insignificant portion of Humanity's history that I call life.
I'm Portuguese, and it's often said that about 90% of our population is Catholic. The fact that there are so many festivities, religious monuments and "saints" or catholic figures (usually by the name of "Our Lady of -something-") is kind of proof of this. In fact, religion is so… Continue

This is a story I wrote a few years ago. I was just learning about atheism at the time, but thinking about leaving the religion I grew up in (Jehovah's Witnesses). Some of the themes are (somewhat intentionally) ambiguous and open to interpretation. I'd love to hear what people make of it. :)
Long ago, the whole Earth was ruled by just one Emperor who was kind and just and wise. In the middle of an inhospitable land there… Continue

I figure this is a decent enough place to post my leaving of religion, especially since it might help the people here get to know me better.
My dislike of church started young. I was never really brought, and although my mother was raised catholic and my dad in a church-ridden area, I never heard anything but hatred of the tithing system growing up--we apparently had a few churches, that when they began going, asked immediately how much of my parent's income could be promised… Continue

I wrote this short story yesterday evening. I intended it to read like a children's book about children, and who knows, maybe one day it will be :P The inspiration came from many YouTube videos, especially this one. Enjoy!
Once there were five friends. When the weather was nice they'd play outside together in the… Continue

My entire life I belonged to a church; even as an infant the indoctrination had begun. For the first 22 years of my life, I missed scarcely over 2 dozen church services. I attended youth functions, summer camps, and other various church activities. I grew up in a small town surrounded by family and friends who were all believers to varying degree's. In school I had heard evolution mentioned once, maybe twice and even then it was only a mention without explanation. Through the years I had a few… Continue

I was raised in a Christian 'Church of God' church.
The sect was actually called "Pentacostal Holiness".
Speaking in tongues, dancing and other mystical entertainment was a weekly experience for me. We were taught that this was a necessary step to really be close to god and have him speak through you.
We were put into a room on Sunday mornings to hear and memorize stories and verses. The women didn't cut their hair and they wore long dresses. No jewelry. The men… Continue

While often thought of as a "Children's Story", this is far from it. Loaded with contradictions to what we have been told about God, this story raises some interesting questions.
Warning – this view might disturb some readers, but please read the full article to understand to context of the points being made before jumping to conclusion.
