Second Kings 1:1 to 6:8

1:1 With Ahab dead, Ahaziah took over as king but soon became very sick. The Moabites took this opportunity to rebel against their Israelite overlords. Meanwhile Ahaziah sent men over to Ekron to ask their god Zebub for help…

The benefits of atheism vis a vie the Ten Commandments

In public I rarely cuss.  In private, it's another matter.  Pain and frustration can cause me to say something like Jesus f***ing Christ!  In religious company, I try to bite my tongue, but there have been occasions where I have let a simple, exasperated Jesus! slip.  There have also been occasions where such an exclamation invited a rebuke inspired by the fourth commandment, such as, Don't take God's name in vain.

I just realized my rejoinder.  Now…

Examples of Modern Religious Discrimination

I was reviewing the stats for my website and saw that somebody had been referred to my site from Yahoo Answers. So I clicked the link and this is what I saw . . .

It turned out to be a question I answered 3 years ago and had forgotten…

A Thinking God

What if there is actually a god? Not the god from the Bible or Koran but a thinking God. A creator who doesn’t just reward someone for doing what He says but for using the gifts that He gave them, their free will, intelligence and their own sense of right and wrong. Imagine if this thinking god had decided that a test was needed to try to sort out the innately good from the others in the world. Thus deciding who it was that really deserved the reward of paradise.

It is quite plain to…

My Life is Going to Change Soon...

So, this year I am going to get married (tax breaks are incredible!) to a lovely woman from a religious background. Yay for me! (Secular ceremony with a fun, personal, non-religious spin) I have, of course, hit some bumps in the road with the whole Atheist thing and her religion. Nothing to bad but I did read member Walter Maki's blog post about his family and thought maybe I could contribute to this conversation a little with my own experiences and maybe help me sort out…

God's press conference fails to clarify Haiti quake questions

At a press conference held this morning, self-styled "creator of the universe" God provided disappointingly little new information as to his reasons for causing a devastating earthquake in the Caribbean country of Haiti.

Although the word of God is held by many to be a sacred and unambiguous message given to us directly by the almighty lord of all things, many commentators are expressing a growing frustration with the creator's vagueness on numerous policy issues, and unwillingness… Continue

Questioning the mental health of some Christians

We may need to call the psych ward for this poor man. Pat Robertson thinks he's aware of dealings between Haiti and a fictitious monster.

Additionally, his words are wholly inconsistent with some of his own plagiarized deity's most important teachings - according to Pat, Haiti is cursed not only because of a pact with the devil, but also because it's poor. However, Matthew 5:3 says "Blessed are the poor..."

So which is it? Shall we get some… Continue

"But, but Jesus... there's so much proof!"

This was also posted over at Cubik's Rube, my skeptical/atheist blog.

Okay... I think we can all relax.

I didn't watch it the first few times I saw it linked, because I read the summary and it just sounded depressing. Eventually I caved in and witnessed the nightmare for myself.

It really was hideous.

Yes, it's that video of the American… Continue

Congress Passes Mandatory Public Service Act; Participants Forbidden From Attending Church While Serving

On 09 March the House passed H.R. 1388; and on 26 March the Senate passed it as well. H.R. 1388, Officially title the Generations Invigorating Volunteerism and Education Act, or GIVE Act, is being referred to by many as the Mandatory Public Service Act.

Students graduating high school will be required to register; but can delay their registration by attending college. Mandatory or volunteer participation will be based on the household income of the parents of the… Continue

A New Day!

O, friends, it is a new day! I suddenly and without any reason whatsoever believe in the Christian God that made the earth and every living thing in it. I believe in His holy Word the Bible, the only True book ever written. I no longer accept Evolution. I no longer support gay marriage. I will no longer call a nonbeliever my friend. The Bible tells me so.

I leave my profile as a testimony to all the ignorance I once had, so that I may never fall back into the trappings of… Continue
