On August 9th in Wayne county of Missouri, (My home town). Missouri voters approved prayer issue. I voted against this, and at least I tried to do something good in my state. But the majority has spoken, but I remember something that Bill Maher once said: "Just because the majority out weights the minority, doesn't mean the minority is wrong. The majority once thought that the world was flat, but that didn't make them right." It's tough to do something right, when everyone else is against…

What Good Are You to Me?
There’s an image floating around on Facebook of what appears to be an African man holding his emaciated son in his arms. The caption says something about God and prayers being unanswered, and how this is proof there is no god. It’s not the only image like it floating around, so I’m sure you get the gist. God answers the prayers of indulgent, greedy Americans yet ignores the pleading of starving children everywhere else in the world (well, and even right in the United States). Of course, a…

Churches resorting to Prayer when court cases and petitions fail.

They have tried letter-writing, petitions and a lawsuit, all to no avail. So now the Christian congregations that are weeks away from…

Submitting an complaint to the FL ACLU
I have been trying to submit a complaint to the FL ACLU and need "witness (people who have heard the complaint)" which includes their full contact information. I'd also like your input, information from anyone who has dealt with the ACLU before, and contact information from anyone who…

Paradox of Prayer
Prayer doesn't make sense. We Atheists know it doesn't work. But The thing is, it couldn't possibly work.
I'm going to be arguing as if the Christian god actually exists here. It's purely hypothetical, I'm not arguing for his existence, merely trying to refine how he could possibly exist. Before I begin, let me lay out a bit of the view of the traditional Christian god so you can see what exactly what I'm talking about. First, god is all knowing. Second, god has a plan. The second…

This morning, as a serving member of my countrys' Navy, I participated in "Ceremonial Divisions", a formal parade where a visiting dignitary inspects the troops, medals are awarded, speeches are made. At one point during "Divvies", we are ordered to "Remove Headdress" while the School Chaplain recites a prayer.
Anyone have an opinion on what is essentially being ordered to participate in a prayer? While I direct this question to serving or former members of the Armed…

This is a sample post from my blog: Foxhole Atheism
The Huffington Post currently has an article describing some controversy over the exclusion of religious clergy/material from the 9/11 memorial service. Bloomberg has pledged to maintain his position despite conservative religious group protests. A spokesperson for the…

An Atheist's prayer?
I was thinking about all the little prayers that religious families recite throughout the day, such as: "Praise the Lord!", "god is watching", "bless you" & etc. and how they offer comfort to each other. And, I realized that my family of ardent atheists, does pretty much the same. But we don't acknowledge some deity. Our prayer, nevertheless, is uttered to comfort each other in tough times, it's uttered when we're laughing, we say it when we're scared, and most times we just say it…

Damon Fowler- An Atheist Hero
Damon Fowler, a high school senior at Bastrop High School in Louisiana, is being called an Atheist Hero in many forums and blogs this morning. Damon called for his school not to use a Christian prayer during their graduation ceremony, citing Louisiana law. Due to a threat of the ACLU, the school district decided to remove the prayer from their graduation program...but things only got worse for Damon. He has received death threats from other students, been slandered by his teacher, and has…

My Response to, "I'll Pray for You"
The "I'll Pray for You" is the ultimate conversation ender, or useless phrase thrown in which can be used in a variety of variations: goodbye, you're a fool, oh you're sick that's so sad but I'm not going to do anything of value, (while struggling with demon inside the collar of your shirt) you're... threatening... me... with reason... and I need... a way... out, you're going to war and i'm your honey. It pisses me off. They use it for everything and then what is a normal non-believer…

Sunday School APR 3, 2011
first off, last week we re-launched the Think Atheist Radio Show podcast. it was an incredible success. we had a ton of listeners tune in live to hear Greg play his interview with John Loftus. and to our surprise, John even called into the show live in between the recorded portions of the interview during which Greg was taking calls. as if that wasn't enough John popped into chat to say hi to the crew chatting there! and in addition to the ton of live listeners the show has since had a ton…

What's a day without Facebook drama?
Wow, I guess I haven't made it as "known" as I thought. I need to redo my whole profile on FB to exclaim my atheism. I'm getting really tired of having to deal with this constantly.
My aunt and her son (my cousin) are going through an extremely rough time in their lives. My cousin has been wrongly accused of child molestation. I've reviewed all the information I have been given and I have came to the conclusion that he really is being wrongly accused. (The…
