The Inequality of Dr Bell

Maybe they're just dizzy. A Particle Man's Life

is Always Intense

How can a pair of tiny particles remain connected, remain related, and perfectly responsive to each other, in spite of being separated beyond their ability to communicate at subluminal speeds? It’s as if a pair of twins are born but are never truly separate beings. They…

Why the Author of ‘Why there almost certainly is a God’ Is Definitely Mistaken

On Network Norwich and Norfolk there is an article by a certain Mr James Knight in which the author claims to show that ‘there almost certainly is a God’.[1] As becomes evident soon, however, Mr Knight is definitely mistaken. I shall have to make only a few remarks so as to show you why.

First, point (7) of Mr Knight’s article demonstrates his misconception of mathematics. Mathematics is not something found in nature. Instead, it is a tool invented by…

The Inflationary Universe and Fine Tuning

In the "Origin of the Universe" thread, Angelo made some claims about cosmology and fine tuning. I want to respond to those comments here, because it is a good example of how further understanding sometimes removes the need for "fine tuning."

Back in the 1970s, when I was a mere undergrad, the Big Bang Model (BB) of the…

Math Video

I stumbled upon this very interesting math lecture. It's an hour long but worth your time if you're interested in math/physics.

Quantum Dreams: From Philosophy to Physics and the Space in Between

Hi, my name is Shine--for the purposes of delicious Internet anonymity--and I want to major in English with a minor in Physics.

Unfortunately, I am not sure if this combination is even available at my university; to be honest, I’m embarrassed to ask my advisor. “Hello,” I will say as my fingers uncontrollably fidget with an indeterminate angst, “may I please change my minor from philosophy to physics?”

Am I really prepared for the potential mix of hilarity and condemnation… Continue

"The Wormhole" First Impressions?

The first episode in "The Wormhole" series with Morgan Freeman aired tonight. I am interested to hear some of the impressions of people on this site. I thought it was pretty interesting overall and I was pleased that they mentioned several explanations to "God" and the "fine-tuning" of our universe (including my touted multiverse theory). I thought it was very thought provoking and I don't think we should be too quick to dismiss physicists who say we may be able to prove whether God exists or… Continue

It's been awhile, but I've got a juicy one here. Godwin award in only a few messages!

http://twitter.com/George_Tr

I've gotten rather irate with this one. He thinks dark matter, basically discovered in 1934, is something very recent. Amongst other ignorances. Have fun.

On miracles, magic and supernatural physics

I set aside an hour and a half and watched the Thunderf00t/Ray Comfort discussion, and it got me thinking about the relationship between magic and miracles. I've never, as an adult, believed in either magic or miracles, but for some reason, I'd never really thought about comparing and contrasting them until I saw it.

Here's my consideration of the relations between magic, miracles, gods and physics:…

Pseudoscience

This is an extract from my latest blog post, titled "Pseudoscience".

So, I guess I should've done this one sooner. Pseudoscience is pretty much the pinnacle of anathema to everything I'm struggling for on this blog (hey, writing dozens of words about stuff as often as five or six times a month is a real struggle sometimes). I'm all about… Continue
